Arrow O.K. Mike and Biff, We've established that Cecilia DeLanna arrives from Naples to NY on Aug. 30, 1907. Cecilia's Italian husband, Benardino Verrico makes his third trip to the US with members of Cecilia's family members (DeLanna) about 1905 bound for Johnsonberg, Pennsylvania. Trying to locate Luigi Delanna.
Can you help verify any incident regarding this dialogue? Thanks, Tom

Tom,

Here's Bernardino's 1905 manifest but I don't see any DeLanna's.

www.ellisisland.org/EI...&line=0012

And 1902 manifest. No DeLanna's.

How was Luigi related to Cecilia?

Biff

Greetings Biff, Luigi ( Louis) DeLanna was Cecilia DeLanna Verrico's brother. Luigi, born approx. 1893. In the 1920 US Census Louis is listed as a resident in Benardo and Cecilia's home.
I have information that Benardo joined some of the DeLanna's at/about 1905 for work at Johnsonberg, Pa. I doubt that Luigi was among them as he would have been about 12 years old at that time, as I earlier conjectured.
Benardo, Cecilia and first born child, Assunta, are listed in the 1910 Census, in Cortland, New York, but no mention of brother Luigi; leading me to suspect that he arrives in the US after 1910.
There's a special reason why getting background on Luigi is important. I should like to share this with you some time.

Idea Greetings Biff, I'm pretty sure we have a fix on Luigi DeLanna. Frankly I'm quite surprised! Some of these chaps travel the "seas" like the Missus and I go for our weekly groceries; and we're on fixed incomes.
I knew that Luigi had brothers: Frank and Charles. Carmen doesn't come into play yet.
Family "word of mouth" reported that some of the DeLanna boys set out for Johnsonberg, Pa.about 1906 or 1907. Could Benardino (Cecilia Delanna's husband) have been with this group? Records show that in 1907 Bernardino resided in Cortland, New York; was employed at Wickwire Brothers and wife, Cecilia joins him in the city.

Berardino definitely went to Johnsonberg per the 1905 manifest I preciously possted.

www.ellisisland.org/EI...&line=0012

Since Charles is not an Anglo name, I wonder if that's a name Carmine took. I'll see what else I can dig up on the DeLanna boys.

Are you in the UK? And do you know why Luigi was in Glasgow?

Cool Hello Biff, Hope not to disappoint you but am not in UK. We reside in northern New York State on Lake George (named for King George and that's the closest I can relate to UK.
Now getting down to the business at hand, I personally know of three Delanna brothers living with us in Cortland, New York. This would be the 1930's and early1940's. (Luigi, Charles (could be Carmen), Frank (Francesco). Each of these men were brothers of Cecilia.
Now Cecilia immigrates in 1907 as we're established ---the same year that we have Luigi Delanna arriving. It's unlikely that Cecilia who was illiterate, would be making the journey to the US alone.

Tom,

Cecilia wasn't travelling alone but with the woman listed above her on the manifest, Carmela Fragnoli. Both of them were going to Cortland.

www.ellisisland.org/EI...&line=0018

Carmen definitely went by the name of Charles. I found a Charles DiLanna (wife Damiana) listed in a 1937 Cortland directory.

Tom,

Could this be Luigi's 1930 census?
Year of birth is off by about two years but occupation of barber is correct. Living in Detroit with wife Anna and nephew-in-law Joseph Wolford.
