Hi Michelle and welcome.

Is there anything else we can help you with? Was your great grandfather ever in the U.S? If so, have you placed him on a census or found his ship manifest?

Let us know!

Welcome Michelle! You can also locate a LDS Family History Center near you and order the appropriate microfilm for the birth, marriage and death records of the town. The have records from 1809-1910 available for this town. By ordering the microfilm you can trace your complete family history back to the 1700's if you want to go that far. You can also find all his brothers, sisters, etc.
Microfilms Available

FAMILY HISTORY CENTER LOCATIONS
If you need more assistance with this just ask. Many of us here have ordered these microfilms.

thankyou Riccardo for the address.
My grandfather moved to Australia in 1952.My father was born in Reggio Calabria in 1948 ,and i gather that was where they were living before they moved. My grandfathers name was Fortunato Condo and his wife Marie Tripodi.I have her parents names but not my grandfathers parents names and i am hoping they will be on the birth act .Can i still apply for his birth act without their names?

Here this is what I found about emigration of Fortunato Condo

CONDO Fortunato - Nationality: Italian - Arrived Melbourne per Hellenic Prince 21 October 1951.

Michelle, when you request his birth certificate, you have to write in italian and be specific you want their names on it.
If it is for genealogy purpose I suggest you to request a photocopy from the real birth record, that is better, because it contains a lot of more informatios

Also, if you want, you can request his LISTA DI LEVA (military draft card) to Archivio di Stato di Reggio Calabria.
This document also states names of his parents

Let us know
kisses and hugs
bye Riccardo Very Happy

Michelle, that is great advice from Riccardo regarding the Lisa di Leva and lucky for you, Reggio Calabria does not charge for them! I e-mailed the archives and received my ggf's draft papers within four weeks. Let us know if you want to get those too and Riccardo or I can tell you how.

Hi michelle,

and Happy New Year!

Click on the link posted by Riccardo gave you in blue and the email is on there. The email should definitely be in Italian so write a rough draft of the info in English including ancestors name, birth year, and anything else you know. Someone here will help translate into Italian for you.

Hi, Michelle,

Here is the e-maill address to Reggio Calabria's archives and what I wrote. I added a little apology that I can't write Italian well! So, if Riccardo or anyone wants to correct my note, feel free. In any event, they did respond to this e-mail, so they were able to understand it even if there were some mistakes. I tried to put in the letter below where you should insert your information.

asreggiocalabria @ tiscali.it
Egregio Signori,

Mi chiamo (insert your name here) ed abito negli Stati Uniti. Mi dispiace, non scrivo buon italiano. Vorrei sapere sia possibile ottenere una copia della Lista di Leva e una copia del Ruolo Matricolare per mio bisnonno, (here is where I put the name of my ggf- my bisnonno) , e' nato 29 agosto 1884 (this was his birthday) nel commune di (insert name of town here). Il suo padre fu (insert name of your ggf's father). La sua madre fu (insert name of your ggm's mother). Quanto costano e come' devo pagare?

Then add your postal address: Il mio indirizzo e' (my address is)

Distinti saluti (put your name here)
