I have decided it is high time I begin requesting documents from Italy. Many of you have had success so perhaps I will get lucky too. As some of you know, the only living siblings my grandfather had (to my knowledge) were the product of his mother’s second marriage. His half sister Emilia DeSeta had a notation on her birth act regarding her marriage in the nearby town of Paola with the date and the spouses name which no one could read. I would like to request her marriage act and/or her Pubblicazione but I only have her name, date of birth and the date of the marriage – I do not have the groom’s name. Can I successfully request the documents without his name? They are not available on microfilm yet.
My second question is regarding the family certificate which I know some of you have been successful with. I want a family certificate to include both my great grandmother’s spouses. Fat chance right? So I probably have to choose. Since I know she have 5 children survive past 1910 from the second marriage, I will have to choose that family for a family certificate. What information do I need to send them to get the family certificate?
Here is Emilia DeSeta's birth act: i163.photobucket.com/a...l/scan.jpg
Thank you for your help.

SINCE YOU HAVE HER DATE OF MARRIAGE, IT SHOULD BE PRETTY SIMPLE FOR THEM TO LOOK THIS UP AS THE BOOKS WERE RECORDED IN DATE ORDER ---- THEY CAN JUST GO TO THAT DATE AND THEN LOOK FOR MARRIAGES THAT OCCURED THAT DAY UNTIL THEY FIND HER NAME.

I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED ONE "SCHEDA/STATO DI FAMIGLIA" WHICH MY COUSIN OBTAINED FOR ME IN MY DAD'S HOMETOWN AND IT WAS ONLY FOR MY GRANDFATHER (BUT HE WAS BORN IN 1861 AND DIED IN 1942 BEFORE I WAS BORN). I HAVE RECEIVED ABOUT 40+ DOCUMENTS FROM CORATO , BUT NEVER RECEIVED A REPLY REGARDING REQUESTS I MADE FOR A SCHEDA DI FAMIGLIA FOR MY GREAT GRANDFATHER. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY REQUIRE A LOT OF TIME AND RESEARCH. I NEVER GOT A RESPONSE FROM SAN GIORGIO ALABANESE IN CALABRIA EITHER FOR A SIMILAR REQUEST ALTHOUGH THEY SENT ME A LOT OF DOCS.

I have heard the family certificates are hard to come by - which is why I have hesitated so long. In the back of my mind I think my grandmother could have had children in another town nearby with my grandfather's father. I have all my family documents from 1858-1910 (I am still working back to 1809). What I am really interested in is who my grandfather's half sisters married - 4 of them. I have no hope of tracing the family past 1910 without that. They all probably would have married in the 1920's. Perhaps if I furnish all this information it would help???
I am on a mission here...my father wants to see his grandparents picture before he dies. He does not understand what is taking me so long. Shocked

Cathy I'm stumped! I know its early in the morning but I can't figure it out.

Heres the document resized a bit to show a close up..

img72.imageshack.us/im...cangk5.jpg

I think its time to refer to my books..but I need to wait until I get home from work.

Charlie, yes the certificate you are refering to is one of the most difficult to get. The clerks in the comuni are under no obligation to perform a search of this kind since you are correct, its very time consumming. That doesn't mean you should try..(I try and request everything I can get). You have more success if you provide them with as much info as you can though.

Just a a sidenote, there is a charge for this certificate. They charge by the persons found, so if there were name people in total (including the parents) there could be a charge of anywhere from 2.50 to 5.00 each and then there may also be a genealogy tax. In my case it was 10 euros. It can get quite expensive.

I would just try writing away for the marriage act using the info you have. You should ave better luck with that,

Hope this helps.
