The Salerno Archives has informed me that they do not hold the military records. Does anyone know the military district I would make inquiries to?

Thank you,
lilbees

You may try:

Distretto Militare Principale Di Salerno
VIA POSIDONIA 98

Thank you for the information Livio. Do you also have the same information for the military district Naples? That is where my great grandfather and his brothers registered for the military after moving from Roccapiemonte.

lilbees

Oh! forgot, do they have an email address or just by written letter?

Hi Livio,

I treid to find my Grandfather's military registration, but I was told that it didn't exist.....could this be because he was born in 1861? Was this required then? He lived in Corato (BA) in Puglia......here is the response I received......not sure if it is because of his date of birth or if these specific records were not kept in Barletta but in another repository:

In riferimento alla Vs. del 22/4/2008 si comunica che nell'ex Distretto Militare di Barletta non esiste nessun MISCIOSCIA Francesco nato il 1861.

Firmato Michele GRIMALDI Responsabile del procedimento amministrativo "ex lege 241/90".

Thanks

The response you received says:
With reference to your letter of 22 April 2008 we inform you that in the Distrtto Militare of Barletta there is no record for MISCIOSCIA Francesco born 1n 1861.
Signed Michele Grimaldi etc.

If your Grandfather was from Corato, province of Bari, maybe you should ask the Distretto MIlitare of Bari.

Liveo,

At the time I made this original request I was directed to Barletta, as this was in 2008 before the new BAT Province was formed. Most of the Civile Documents for Corato actually reference the "Distretto di Barletta". I will see if there is any additional information actually available, but I am not sure if there is another office to contact for military records for the Provincia di Bari:

[Gentile Sig. Miscioscia, in riferimento alla Sua richiesta dell’8/4/08 si informa che i registri di leva del comune di Corato si conservano presso la Sezione di Archivio di Stato di Barletta via F. D’Aragona n. 132, cap. 70051 Barletta (Ba)
e-mail:as-ba.barletta@beniculturali.it.
Il funzionario responsabile del procedimento "ex lege" n. 241/90 dott.ssa A. Lafronza.]
