Michael,

Sorry if I've lost focus here. I'll get back on track and try to find info on your great grandparents.

Looking forward to finding out the details on the birth certificate as well as the story of their cross country trip to Idaho.

Biff

Marzi is in Cosenza Province. If you have her surname perhaps you can find information on her in The Cosenza Archives

Thank you. That is a very useful site.

Biff, I think I found Antonio Di Iorio coming to America here:

Antonio DiIorio
age 26
Naples to NY Ship Cachar
14 May 1888
Town of origin Ripalda?

Oh sorry, got caught up in later posts. I don't think this is him since the oral tradition I confirmed last night is that his oldest boy, carmen, was born in idaho around 1900. And also he had no other children besides Carmen, leo and peter. But we do think we found him coming through castle garden in 1888. It lists his town of origin as Ripalda. Do you have a guess at where that could be? It must be a misspelling but phoentetically I just haven't a clue.

Could be but the person above actually looks like the name is spells Daddario.. and Ripalda - Serra di Costa

La frazione di Ripalda - Serra di Costa appartiene al comune di San Damiano d`Asti, in provincia di Asti, nella regione Piemonte.

so that doesn't look right either unless you think otherwise.

When it comes to Antonio, we have no basis to say he was from the north or the south, actually. His boys were all young when his wife died, and then he apparently went back to italy (his home town) where he remarried. The boys were left for adoption. Does this mean the record above is not the same passenger list as the one we found on castelgarden.org? Is it a different crossing?

It is the same list but may not be the same passenger. It seems that this ship only sailed once in 1888 with men Antonio aboard so its hard to say. The thing I am most concerned about is finding his naturalization record since he claims to be naturalized by 1910 - I tend to think he naturalized in 1888 and arrived earlier which is how they listed it sometimes on the US Census records but I have no proof at this point so we need to keep looking.

OK, now I see the issues. I really do appreciate your help. Where could I look for naturalization records? I want to learn the places to look and take the laboring oar...

I think this is the image of the manifest Michael found. Unfortunately, not the best. #442

Michael, do you have access to the Kries Aherin Donovan Carey Family Tree on ancestry?

looks like it could be. so this is where the 'repalda' came from. That doesn't necessarily look like repalda to me.
