Hello!
I am interested in any information on the Forgione Family from near Rocca San Felice.
My grandmother Concetta was adopted by Lorenzo and Madeline Forgione.
Concetta was one of many children (all were adopted). Her siblings were Rocco Carpino, Rocco Ceretto, Patsy Fiori, Louis Spino, Tinella Marr, Gertrude Fasano.
My grandmother was born abt. 1889 immigrated to US 1901, settled in Clyde NY and married my grandfather Joseph Dapolito. She was also called Jennie.
The Ellis island records indicate her name as Guiseppa, from Torella Di Lombardi.
Her siblings also immigrated to the Clyde area. My grandmother knew her natural family, thus I suspect that she (and they) were adopted by relatives.
I have searched and thought about this for many years, any information is much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Nancy

Hi Nancy and welcome to Gente!!

You said in your post that your grandmother and/or her adoptive family were from near Rocca San Felice but her manifest from Ellis Island lists Torella die Lombardi. I have checked the LDS web site and they have films for both towns. One of the films has the diversi records (records for adoptions, foundlings etc.) for both Rocca San Felice and Torella dei Lombardi. I think that might be a starting point for you as well as looking at additional films for the actual birth record. This might help you piece together the relationship between your grandmothers blood parents and Lorenzo Forgione and his wife Madeline. It could be the relationship is with Madeline's family. Do you know Madeline's surname? Italian women kept their surnames and didn't assume their husbands surname until the were in America.

These are the films you might want to order

Torella dei Lombardi, province: Avellino - region: Campania
Nati 1896-1910 Pubblicazioni 1866-1910 Matrimoni 1866-1910 Morti 1866-1880 FHL INTL Film 1743727

Diversi volumi annuali di Bisaccia, Calabritto, Castelfranci, Caposele, Conza della Campania, Frigento, Guardia Lombardi, Lacedonia, Lioni, Monteverde, Morra de Sanctis, Nusco, Rocca San Felice, Teora, Torella dei Lombardi, Villamaina FHL INTL Film 1743729 Item 2

# Rocca San Felice, province: Avellino - region: Campania

Nati 1866-1910 Pubblicazioni 1866-1910 Matrimoni 1866-1898 VAULT INTL Film 1743444 Items 2-4

You will need to locate a Family History Center (FHC) and go in to order the films. Here is the link
www.familysearch.org/e...et_fhc.asp

The films take 2 to 4 weeks to arrive once ordered and cost is about $5.50 USD per film. The films have to be viewed at your FHC.

If you have any questions just post back and everyone here will be happy to help.

Elizabeth

Oh my! Thank you so much. There is a FHC site very close by!
Just one more question, would the birth records be included in Item 2, or just the "dieversi records" and are baptism found there as well?

I do not know of Madeline's surname.
I am very excited, cannot thank you enough. My son and I are planning a trip next year. This has been my lifelong dream. I would like to have a mass said for my grandmother's family.

Best Regards,
Nancy

Hi Nancy

When you order the films you'll fill out a slip for each film and will need to include the film number, item number(s) if any and give the description. Your numbers would be the following

Film 1743727 (births Torella dei Lombardi)
Film 1743729 Item 2 (diversi is item 2 of this film)
Film 1743444 Items 2-4 (births Rocca San Felice are items 2 through 4 of this film)

A volunteer at your FHC will help you fill out your slips if you ask.

One other note....you might be able to find the birth acts of the other adopted siblings your grandmother had in the films (if you have an idea of the years of their births). That too might help you piece together some information.

Let us know if you have any questions. And please post back and let us know your progress.

Good luck
Elizabeth

Elizabeth,
Thanks again! Yes, I do have Ellis Island records for all of the known siblings! We are thinking along the same lines on this! I stumbled upon a site called footnotes(?) and noticed my GM listed as Jane Dapolito, I had forgotten this was another name she used, in addition to Jennie, Concetta. I often shake my head at these finds, along with the slight variations in birth yrs.
Will be in touch. I am ever so appreciative for your efforts.
Best,
Nancy

Hello!!

I have an update. The good news is I now have accurate info. I have made several errors in research, and some "assumptions" that were incorrect. All family are listed from RSF, so I shall skip the Torella research.

My Great Grandparents from RSFelice: Lorenzo & Maddalena Forgione
My grandmother (adopted by the Forgione family) is listed on Ellis as Concetta Fiume. This surname is news to me. I suppose it could be another typo. My grandmother Concetta also used the name Jennie, and Jane (SS card). Married Joseph Dapolito and lived in Clyde,NY.

Maddalena's maiden name was Di Leo.
GM's adopted siblings: G.Antonio(Joseph), Pietro(Peter), Francesco(Frank), Maria Vzo (Jennie) and Felicita(Flora).
I found the correct passage for all. From 1901-1902

My GM's natural siblings: Rocco Ceretto, Rocco Carpino, Louis Spino, Patsy Fiore, Gertrude Fasano, and Tinellia Marr.

Family stories over the years suggest my GM's father was a DeSimone. I haven't found any information to support this. I have one uncle left (my mother's brother) John Dapolito. He is elderly and not in great health, I so hope that I can present him with information as to the natural parents of GM. Looking forward to the arrival of the ordered films! Soon I will have more news to share.
Thank you again new friends.
Best Regards,
Nancy

Dear Cathy,
I may just take you up on the footnote offer. I haven't saved any of those searches.
I do believe that one was just a SS listing though.
Best Regards,
Nancy
