My Paternal Grandparents were from Reggio Calabria..Ardore and Locri (which was also known as Gerace Marina). The surnames are Angilletta and Fuda.

I have reached a point where I can't seem to get past my great grandparents names on the Angilletta side. The info I have is as follows:

My grandfather: Francesco Bruno Angilletta Born 23 Mar 1895 in Ardore, RC and died 21 Jan 1989 in Locri. Married (abt 1918 to Domenica Caterina Fuda, born 24 Aug 1889 in Locri (Gerace Marina) and died 14 Mar 1975 in Locri.
His parents: Rocco Angilletta born abt 1845 place unknown and
Maria Andriano unknown birth date or place (possibly Ardore).

Other confirmed children: Enrico Angilletta born prior to 1889 Ardore, Married Domenica Caterina Fuda on 7 July 1913 died abt 1917 in WW1.
Giuseppe Born abt 1876 Ardore married Giuseppa Rubino abt 1903 in Ardore, died unknown.

I do not know Domenica's parents names and am actively trying to find this info out as well as any other information about either of these two families. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'm brining this back to the top again to recap what I have found so far this year with the help of all of you. I hope you all will also consider recapping your successes..

I have received the Family Certificate for Rocco Angilletta(1842) (my great grandfather) and his wife, Maria Andriano (1851) from Ardore.

Children are:
Maria Rosa 1874
Giuseppe 1876
Vincenzo 1877
Domenico 1880
Maria Concetta 1882
Maria Concetta 1884
Enrico Ferdinando 1886
Enrico 1889
Francesco 1895

Maria's parents were Giuseppe and Rosa Chiricosta. (Looks like the first children were named after her parents although this still needs to be confirned). I have Maria's Birth Act, but not Rocco's//yet.

I found Giuseppe (1876) in the US Census living in Pennsylvannia and his son. This morning I found his son, Bruno's Petition for Naturalization on footnote..

and this one..

More to recap in a bit! Very Happy

Wow! I love those family certificates, I have 3 which are such a wealth of information. I see so much about this footnote website, but I went there and it's confusing a little. What are some of the most useful databases in terms of genealogy? Is there a fee etc?

Thanks Smile

James,

To get footnotes wasn't expensive..it was $8.95 for a month (or $60 yrly, or $1.95 per record page). I had it before but I also found it so confusing that I never renewed it. Then last night, while searching for Pennsylvania Vital Records, it gave me a link which gave me another link to footnote..but it was a page I hadn't noticed before. SO I typed in my surname and my cousin's naturalization record popped up. I hadn't seen it before. Of course, this morning I quickly renewed and got the copies I needed. I plan on using it more now and getting to know the site..its supposed to be very good although I think it's search engine is not too user friendly. At least I was able to get the marriage dates of Bruno and his wife, confirm the birth place of their daughter, and locate the wife's family in the 1920 Census...pretty cool since I never had to leave my PC to do it!

If you need anything, just let me know... Wink

Just updating some old threads here. I created the website..

Angilletta.info where I am trying to collect as much information about my family and other Angilletta's as I can. I am still not having any success with Rocco although I have lots of information on Maria Andriano's family I have also just rented the Ardore films from 1810 to 1830 which I am currently putting online.

Ok..so I was looking through a cousin's Naturalization Papers today that I found last year and I noticed that he declared he was born in Ardore San Nicola. I always thought he made a mistake but now I realize he was born in a frazione of Ardore- San Nicola. So I stared looking around and I noticed that www.sansotta.us/genealogy.html is also researching people from Ardore, is a FHC Volunteer and has many similar names in his tree as I do in mine. I think I will email me for fun and see what happens. And I am now going to write away for the birth of my cousin too. Riccardo..where are you?
