If you wish to trace your family back further, your best choice is to find a LDS Family History Center and begin ordering microfilms of the civil records of your town. These birth, marriage and death records will allow you to trace your family back well into the 1700's. These records (of course) are written in Italian, but once you know where to find the information you seek and have a few resources at your fingertips, they are usually quite easy to understand and read.

Begin with who you know. Find your grandfather's birth act first. On the birth act his parent's names and ages will be listed. From there you can find his siblings birth records and his parent's marriage records which will list their parent's names. Many of us here have done this so if you need help or have questions feel free to ask.
Here is a translation of a basic birth act so you can get an idea of what information can be obtained on them and where to find it.
