I know once again this document is in Latin but can anyone please tell me if the names of Giuliano's parents are on this document and what their names were.

Its the only way I can confirm if this is my G.G.Grandfather's brother

The names I am hoping to find are:
His father-Giovanni Battista De Filippis
His Mother- Teresa Gagliardi

I'd be very grateful for any ideas or suggestions

Emmy

Anno Domini 1803, die 24 mensis Junii. Julianus filius Joannis Baptistae de Philippis Terrae Acquafundatae Venafranae Diocesis, aetatis suae annorum 45 in domo sua animam Deo reddidit in omunione Sanctae Matris Ecclesiae, omnia Sacramenta recepit, et in commendatione animae adjuatus, corpus cujus sepultum fuit in ecclesia Matrici sub titulo Sancti Joannis baptistae dictae Terrae, et in fidem. Philippus Gagliardi Aeconomus Curatus.

In fede. Filippo Gagliardi Economo e Curato.

N.B.
This document was required from Luigi Nicola de Filippis (son of the deceased Giuliano) for his marriage (who took place in the month of March of the year 1835).

Many thanks for the quick answer Luca
At least I'm now sure Giuliano's father was a Giovanni Battista Defilippis but I was hoping it would have given Giuliano's mother's name too as it usually does on a death act and then I could be 100percent sure, but maybe could be she was still alive when the wedding took place and in this case it wasnt necessary to have written confirmation of his mother's name ? Or have I got it all wrong :?Could the
Quote::
Diocesi di Venafro
be referring to where Guiliano lived? I know my GiovanniB Filippis lived in Strada della Porta Acquafondata.
Thanks for your time Luca very much appreciated

Venafro was not a street nor a an hamlet, but it was (in that period) the town where was the see of the diocese in which the village of Acquafondata relapsed (i don't know if this is the exact verb...) and, so, Venafro was the residence of the bishop.
About the mother's name: in the religious death acts i usually find the name of the mother is (almost) never reported.

Many many thanks Luca for the explantion. I was confused about the mother's name not being on the death acts from Acquafondata because the films of death records I have recorded for Sant'Elia always had the names of both parents on them.

Thanks again for your time Luca its very much appreciated.

Pardon my intrusion on your post Miss Emmy...but this thread poses a big question that I must ask.
I have noticed the church records and the older stato records leave the mother's name off too. So how can someone verify that they are following the correct family without the mother's name? What is the common practice?

Cathy you are not intruding. I was just wondering could it be perhaps the ones I have recorded from Sant'Elia were from the 1860 and by that time did have the mother's name on the death acts but maybe earlier than that pre 1820 or before they didnt include the mother's name?
I wanted to verify that Giuliano deFilippis was my G.G.Grandfather's brother but because there is more than one Giovambattisto de Filippis I required the mother's name to confirm it.
The way I certified that the previous three members of the family were brothers was because their names on death act that said they registered the death of their parent and it said they were the son of the deceased. It also included the names of the dead person's mother and father and also the name of the wife of the dead person and her mother and father's name too.
Embarassed Embarassed I've just rechecked the dates of birth of the 3 who are definatley brothers born 1781,1789 and 1805 and from the document that Luca translated for me it says that Giuliano died in 1803 and he was 45 when he died meaning he was born around 1758 and couldnt have been another brother ( Embarassed I hadnt thought to check it that way)
My G.G.G.Grandmother was 78 when she died in 1833 making her date of birth 1755 same year as my GGGGrandfather was born so they definatley couldnt have been his parents
now its making me wonder if Giuliano could have been my GGGGrandfather's brother? I'm getting myself so confused I must go over all the dates again--
See Cathy that's proved you're not intruding you have made me realise I've made a mistake and solved my problem Very Happy - think I'll need to go and do a course on adding and subtracting Embarassed Wink Wink

Miss Emmy...did you think, perhaps, maybe twins? I found several twins and even 1 set of triplets. Its possible.
And yes, the older documents without a mothers name of in the early 1800's - 1817, 1814 and 1816. A few did not list it on deaths after that but I think that was because noone knew - all of the missing mothers were on death acts of older people in their 80's or 90's.

Could be possible Cathy but judging by the dates I've got there seems to be 3 years difference in their births. Giovanni born 1755 and Giuliano in 1758 I dont think there is anyway I can find out because I'm almost sure the films for births for Acquafondata dont go back to then. It also seems my ggggrandmother and ggggrandfather were born in the same year. Maybe there's still some more information to be found in the processetti Smile fingers crossed.

I'll keep looking Wink Wink

Just a thought Does the commune keep records as far back as that or would you need to apply to the church for those records?

Emmy,
You are right, the civil birhs do no go back that far. But you can get the church birth (or rather baptism) in their processcetti or allegati records.

I think that often Cathy. I'd have been quite lost without Luca's and Livio's help re these latest documents. I never ever thought I'd get as far back as I have these past 2/3 years considering it took me over 30 years to get the first link for my grandfather and grandmother, and I never would have got to this stage without the help of everyone else here too
God Bless you all

My daughter had a good laugh at me the other night when I was telling her that my gggrandmother was really very old when she died she was in her early seventies!! Silence!!!! then laughter then the reply,"Have YOU forgotten how old YOU were on your birthday last year Mum?
No I havent! I'm still just about 26 years old in my mind its just my body wont listen to what my brain wants it to do Evil or Very Mad but when we move the clocks back one hour in the autumn I'm moving mine back for one hour plus one year for the next ten years if I did it for any longer than that I'd have to go back to work and I wouldnt get my Old Age Pension Cool Very Happy Very Happy

A big THANK YOU again for all the time given helping me understand those documents.

God Bless
Emmy xx

You are too kind!!! Actually they are not so difficult (but how is it that very often I cannot decipher them? I believe that Luca, in this case, is giving his personal opinion...)... in any case thanks for your compliments. Razz
