Billie, was there a second page to that manifest?

I suspect that Federico Scalise might have been an uncle.. (just a guess)

ok great Billie, so it looks like Natale is going to visit his Uncle Natale Scalise in Philadelphia. That's strange because Federico is going to his son in Springfield MA (Where I actually (more or less) live strange enough!)

WOW, WOW, WOW.

That is my grandfather's family. All the info you have on Guiseppe/Joseph B. Russo.

How do all of you get this information?

I now have a rough idea as to where my grandfather is from. I knew he was Calabrese.

The Filomena Molinaro info sounds like it could be correct. Except Filomena did not have a sister named Francesca, but she did have an aunt named Palma. Were there brothers & sisters with Filomena?

I really appreciate all the work all of have done. You are all really great for taking the time to help us newbies.

RizRich,

All information I posted was found on Ancestry, a subscription site.

On the 1913 Philadelphia manifest for Filomena, it appears she had an older sister Francesca born about 1898. Her brother Antonio, born about 1896, is on line 28 of the same manifest.

If my guess is correct for Giuseppe Russo's birthplace on his WWII Draft Card, he was born in Guardia Piemontese in the province of Cosenza, region of Calabria.

I'm still trying to locate a ship manifest for him as well as a WWI Draft Card and any other infomation.

Great find Biff! So now that we know Giuseppe was born in Guardia Piemontese which is in Cosenza Province, you need his parents names. Do you happen to know where Giuseppe died? Different states put different info on death certificates but I know my state Illinois gives parents names.
I did a quick search in the Cosenza Archives and found only 8 records for Russo's born in Guardia Piemontese. This tells me either the archive has not done much for Guardia Piemontese or your Russo's were a very small family and the only Russo's living there. The archive is still a work in progress and they do not have everything online yet. I did find a Giuseppe Russo married to Marianna Calimazzo there who may be your Giuseppe's grandparents, but we need his parent's names to be sure.
Perhaps someone can find a record of his death on Ancestry? (I do not have access) I will check on Footnote though. If I find anything I will post it here later.

Cathy:

Guiseppe was married to Filomena and he died in New Jersey in 1984 (Born 1895). Guiseppe's parents were Antonio Russo & Theresa or Mary Basile. Guiseppe had a sister named Marianna. I know that way back when, children were named after relatives. So his grandmother could have been married to a Marianna.

OK, I will have a look around the archive tonight to see what I can find if noone else does. There are a huge number of Basile's and Russo's on the archive, however not many for your town. I did find an Antonio Russo there, however his wife's name was not Maria, Teresa or Maria Teresa Basile. Either the archive does not have much up yet for Guardia Piemontese or your family lived in more than 1 town. I did do a quick search of Maria Basile, Maria Teresa Basile and Teresa Basile and got a huge number of hits by leaving the town name blank. I will check all those out tonight. I will also check my local family history centers to see if any of them have films for Guardia Piemontese.
If you are interested in obtaining a copy of Giuseppe's birth act, you can order it from the LDS for $4 directly off their website. They mail you a hard copy within 2-4 weeks. I can provide you with a link and a microfilm number if you are interested.

Still looking for any ship manifests for Russo's from Guardia Piemontese. No luck so far finding a possible for Giuseppe, Vincenzo, Francesco, Marianna or Maddalena. Strange. I'll keep trying.
