I am trying to help a cousin track her grandfather through Chicago. I cannot find a ship manifest for him and am hoping someone can work some magic for me. Here is the information I have:
Ernesto Carmine Guido and was born March 26, 1899. His father's name was Ferdinando Guido born September 8, 1856. Although his full name is Ernesto Carmine everyone called him Carmine. He had a sister whose name I am waiting for and a mother whose name I am waiting for. I can only assume the family's destination is Chicago, and there is proof he lived here. The family came from San Fili in Cosenza. When Carmine was 19 he returned to San Fili and married Rosina Napolitano. We think he came to the U.S. when he was about 7 years old but that is a guess. He did attend school in Chicago. At some point after he married Carmine settled in Toronto. I cannot find anything on these people! Embarassed

Carmines WWI draft registration card

I'll see what else I can find. So far the only Carmine or Ernesto Guido I've found in the Illinois census info is married to Teresa Palumbo.

Cathy,

Found this manifest for a Carmine Guido, with mother Angela Lucchetta and sisters Concetta, Rosina and Maria, from a 1910 manifest, last residence and place of birth San Fili, destination Pueblo CO to join what might be Ferdinando Guido although first name is abbreviated. Let me know what you think.
Lines 26 and following. Also see line 16 for a Eugenio Guido from San Fili headed to Chicago.

Hello, Elizabeth Very Happy !

edited--abbreviation looks like Frco which could be short hand for Francesco. Sorry about that. I'll keep looking.

Hello, Elizabeth Very Happy !

Biff

That looks great to me but I still am waiting for mom's and sister's names from my cousin. She only mentioned one sister but that was to tell me she ended up in California. Very interesting about Eugenio. I will look into him too. Um, I have to go now...fire alarm is going off and the building is being evacuated. Shocked

The document is blurry but the surname could be Rossano or Rossino.

I think your information is correct for the family Biff. I don't think the abbreviation is Frco on the manifest I'm trying to find Ferdinando info now.

Edit to revise comment

Have you noticed that Eugenio Guido, the one on line 16, is going to his cousin Rossano Frco (or Fsco)? I have no idea what the abbreviation stands for, could be also Franco although a bit uncommon in those years.

Manifest markings indicate sisters Concetta and Maria naturalized in Southern NY District but sister Rosina naturalized in Chicago office.

Thanks for that WWI Record Biff and Billie! That will really thrill my cousin and that address matches one she had so it is definitely her Carmine! WOO HOO! She thought he went to Cleveland after he went back to Italy and married. I just noticed on that card...yesterday would have been Carmine's birthday!
