I am transcribing birth acts from 1869 from Montalto Uffugo and came across a new first name - LODOVICO. But that is not why I am posting here. The father of the baby was born in a town name I cannot quite make out. It appears to be Parnia_e? Any ideas as to what or where this is? Thanks.
Edit to add: Whereever this is, it is not in Cosenza Province.

No, it does not look like any of those. I went to check Cosenza comune names first assuming that they came from a local town - none of them fit. It is a DeLuca birth act but does not appear to be local DeLuca's because they appear to be aristrocrats or at least upper class. Most of the local DeLuca's are farmers and laborers. This birth act listed the father as "Il signor". In the past I have seen this "title" only in a few documents including Nardi and D'Alessandro who I know were aristocrats who came from the north of Italy. I'd link the document but it is difficult to read. The spouse was born in "Provincia Bres___??" in a town that appears to be Ajole?

Cathy,

Here's a link to alpha listings of comuni and frazioni which might be helpful.

Sorry about that - the storms yesterday distracted me. That site was helpful but I am a bit confused still. I got so frustrated with this birth act (I scanned it blurry) I decided to rescan it next time I go to the FHC.
Thanks so much Biff for your help.

I had a quick look too yesterday and the Province of Brescia would be listed as BS and not Bres..... It may be the town of Brescia but I somehow doubt it.
The other name Ajole could be either Asole (does not appear to exist) or Aiole, a very small frazione (area) in the province of Milan. Neither seem very likely.

The secret (for me) has GOT to be in the remainder of that word beginning BRES...... Any chance you can scan and post it so all the pseudo Sherlock Holmes out here can have another go at it?
