I am researching my father's family (Guglielmetti) from Como Lombardi at least they resided there in the late 1800's. I am a bit stumped on the Italian side. I have traced back to Joseph Guglielmetti (b. 1867) who came from Como Lombardi he immigrated in 1887 ending up in Ohio and then Kansas USA as a miner married to Margaret F. Corus who according to the census is from Bohemia but I have also seen Switzerland.

Joseph's father was Giuseppe Guglielmetti (b. 1840) and Joseph's mother and Giuseppe's wife was Caterina Tettamanti died in Como Dec 4th 1889.

Does anyone have any advice on tracing the Guglielmetti's back further? Or any Guglielmetti's out there:-)

Hi Tuesdaynext .... welcome to Gente. One of our members also has the surname Guglielmetti and it looks like your Joseph married to Margaret Corus is also her Joseph. Here is the link to her thread. If you read through it, on the first page you will find that she found the marriage of Joseph and Margaret but her surname was transcribed poorly but it's the same person you're referring too. Read the entire thread and I think you'll find an awful lot of information there. You may want to post to that thread also and let Uantiti (Ada) know how you're connected. I'm sure you two will have a lot to talk about.

Hi Billie and Tuesdaynext,
I'm not sure that we are talking about the same people. Many things match but my Joseph Guglielmetti is not from the province of Como, Lombardy. Also his father was Giovanni and his mother was Agnese Prandina. He was born December 9, 1866 in Bogogno, province of Novara, Piedmont region not very far from Como (about 60 miles). My Giuseppe (Joseph) Guglielmetti left Italy in 1887 but went to Osage City, Kansas. I don't think he ever went to Ohio, his relatives and friends were in Kansas. He married Frances Margaret (aka Maggie) Conus (born in Switzerland on October 1877). They got married on December 28, 1895 in Osage City, Kansas. They later moved to Missouri following other relatives from the same town. They had 4 children but they divorced and I think Maggie had other children with another man. Joseph was in Diamond/Centerville, Appanoose, Iowa in May, 1914 as his sister Rosa reached him there. His brother Henry was in Centerville too.
So, I don't know what to say. Either your information on parents and place of birth is wrong or if it's correct, you connected your Joseph Guglielmetti to the records of my Joseph Guglielmetti in Kansas. If we are talking of the same person I have names of ancestors and relatives back to 1770. See what you think...

Ada

Hi,
abt the Caterina Tettamanti died the 4th dec 1889, I found only one, and by death record, she was born in Cavallasca but resident in Maslianico( both the communes are in Como province, Lombardia region);
Caterina died at age of 49 and she was the daughter of late Giovanni Tettamanti and of late Giuditta Butti...
Caterina Tettamanti was widow of Giuseppe Guglielmetti, and also widow, for the second time, of Carlo Ronchetti( married the 20 Jun 1875 in Maslianico)...

Giuseppe Guglielmetti and Caterina Tettamanti was resident in Maslianico and they had a first child called:
- Giovanni Guglielmetti born abt in 1864 and died the 17 jul 1924 in Maslianico;

-it also is mentioned another son Angelo Giuseppe Guglielmetti born abt in 1867 in Maslianico and died the 3 dec 1920 in Maslianico, husband of Aldina Casartelli..

The aforesaid Caterina Tettamanti wife of Giuseppe Guglielmentti and wife of Carlo Ronchetti died the 4th dec 1889, she is the right Caterina that you are searching for???
