Hello everyone,
I am looking for some information about by great grandfather Michael Angelo Mazziotti. He was born in Corigliano Calabro, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy in 1896.
So far, I was able to get his birth certificate, I emailed the town and they were nice enough to send it to me. From looking at his certificate, I know his father and mothers names, but I am striking out on finding anything else.

Can someone direct me to a resource to get documents? I have used Archivio de Stato di Consenza to find some stuff, but I don't think it is complete.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Helo and Welcome,

You can write back to the same contact and ask for the "Family History" for your family. That will give you the names of not only the parents of your GGGrandfather but also all of his siblings, and within those records it will show (if they stayed in Italy), who they married, children, and when they died. It will also give you the marriage certificate of his parents.

I did this for my grandfather and this is exactly what I recieved.

Yes, I think writing to the town for old records is your best bet if you know exactly what you're looking for. Requests must be made in Italian and often follow up letters or phones are required since some Comune do not reply quickly (or at all). Comuni in the Province of Cosenza are usually pretty good though. I have had a lot of success with them. And the document Mike suggested is a great resource if you can get it. Some comune do charge for it though. Mine cost 10 euros for each person they found and then a genealogy tax. In total I think the document cost about 160 euros. Each town is different.

Then again another good option is to order the microfilms online from Family Search and have them sent to your local Family History Center where you can make an appointment to view them and do your own family research. The cost is minimal and it a wonderful way to look up additional ancestors.

I think if you look Sambiase was combined with a couple other towns in the 1960's and the form the comune of Lamezia Terme so you might want to write there..........there are films from Family History lIbrary for Sambiase (Catanzaro), 1809-1861 so after 1861 you will have to write to the comune for records
Lamezia is one of the youngest cities of Italy, was established 4gennaio the 1968 administrative Union of municipalities Nicastro, of Sambiase and Sant'Eufemia Lamezia, which represent respectively, today's neighborhoods, Lamezia, Lamezia East and South West London.(Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
