While I continue to cull all of the available records online and at my local FHC for Belmonte Mezzagno and San Giuseppe Jato I would like some suggestions regarding research on ancestors after the early 1900's which seems to be the extent of the records available. For example, both my paternal great grandparents died between 1930 and 1933. The evidence for this is anecdotal provided in letters to my grandfather from his brother; however, no exact dates or any particulars are addressed in these letters. Also the names of other relatives are introduced variously providing a given name absent a surname or a surname without a corresponding given name which makes for difficulty in tracing these relatives. I would like to obtain info perhaps as late as the 1970's. Is this possible and if so, what is the best way to proceed?

I believe some of this records would be able to you through the Comune as a direct ancestor but one of our members more familiar with Italian laws would need to confirm. I also think you may be able to request some documents from their Church although it may be a bit more difficult and generally a donation is required. Regardless, you have nothing to lose by trying, right?

In the process of searching through Allegati I have encountered a document titled Certificato di Poverta. Although this seems to translate as ceftificate of poverty, I wonder if someone could offer a more complete explanation of what this means, the circumstances for the existence of such a document, etc.

Hi,
I know that the certificate of poverty was written when a person was exempted from paying some fee, municipal fee especially..
for the certificates release..
the police making the investigation and after to inform the Commune that the person was poor really.

So relaying the certificates the clerk relaying also the poverty certificate for to explain and to justify that the certificates had not been paid for this reason....
