Greetings! I am hoping that someone can help me find more information regarding my great grandmother, Salvatora DiGiorgi, who was born in or near Palermo, Sicily in 1886. She immigrated to New York City and married Francesco (Frank) Cardamone in 1903. They resided in Yonkers until her death on February 16, 1954. I appreciate any information or leads that anyone has especially information from Italy. I have U.S. Census records but that is about it. Thank you in advance and I hope that I can help another researcher one day.

I believe this is your great grandmother's 1901 manifest.

Name; Salvatora Giorgi
Last residence: Isnello
Destination: NYC to join brother in law ??
YOB: about 1884
On line 26 above Maria Vazzano? also from Isnello headed to NYC to join husband Mariano? Giorgi (possible brother of Salvatora?)

www.ellisisland.org/EI...;line=0027

Also found a 26 Jul 1903 marriage record, License #14870 Manhattan, FHL Roll #1570982 for Salvatora Giorgi and Francesco Cardamone.

Giorgi Salvatore Jul 26 1903 14870 (1903) Manhattan 1570982 Carolomane, Francesco

To purchase a copy of the marriage license:

Brother Mariiano's birth record #59, 1873 Comune di Isnello--spread over 2 pages, toggle ahead for second page

familysearch.org/pal:/...:649017878

Born on 11 June 1873 in a house on Strada Cubba (Cuba Street)
Father: Maestro Fortunato Giorgi fu (son of the deceased) Salvatore, age 49, a merchant
Mother: Marianna Scelsi di (daughter of the living) Mariano Scelsi

Based on the above, it's possible that Fortunato previoususly had another son named Salvatore

Mariano had a twin sister, Carmela, see record #58 who maybe died very young, before 1879
I don't believe that Strada Cubba is Cuba Street

Livio,

Thanks for seeing the birth act of Mariano's twin sister Carmela; I completely missed that.

Best,
Biff

Thank you so very much. How were you able to locate the birth registries so quickly Biff? I have been trying to find them for a while now but did not know how to locate them. Yes, Liviano, Mariano and Carmela were twins but she did immigrate to the U.S. My great aunt confirmed this. The members of this community are wonderful!

Now do you believe that I would be able to locate the birth records for their parents, Fortunato and Marianna Giorgi, or would that be before written records were kept? Also their death records would be great too because my aunt told me that they never left Isnello to immigrate to the U.S.

Actually I am not sure that Carmela made it to the U.S. She may have died at a young age in Isnello. I confused her with another Carmela!

The online birth records begin in 1862 so Fortunato and Marianna's birth records are not available. Death records are available from 1862-1910 but you would have to search year by year to see if you can find them (since Salvatora was born in 1884, start with that year and search forward. There is usually an index at the end of each year showing person's name and record number). Marriage records are available for 1862-1910 also so you could also search them beginning with 1873 (year of Mariano's birth) and work backwards. It can be tedious but is well worth the effort when you find records. If you do find anything, post the link to the image here and we'll help translate the records for you. I'd suggest you try to locate their death records first

REMEMBER the Fortunato Giorgi you are looking for was the son of Salvatore and the Marianna Scelsi was the daughter of Mariano.

Best,
Biff
