I am searching for relatives of my grandmother Lucia Iaconelli. She came from Caserta but i don't know exactly where. She was born between 1886 and 1889. She eloped with my grandfather when she was 15/16 years old.She left two sisters and a brother in Italy.
My grandfather Angelo Pomelli came from Cassino. He was born in 1875. He had a brother and two sisters. One sister was left in italy.
They traveled to Paris, then London. They married in Manchester in 1908. I know all the movements in the UK but am unable to find anything in Italy. I realize now that Caserta and Cassino are not specific enough.I believe that records from these areas were destroyed in WW2.
Any other ideas as to where i can go from here ? The records in UK just state they were from Italy.
Thanks Brittany

Have you tried writing to the archives directly? You have nothing to lose by trying.

Hello Brittany and Nuccia, Very Happy
A possible birth extract for Angelo if you haven't seen it.
familysearch.org/pal:/...1570372374

Father, Giovanni and Mother, Rosa Patriarca(sp)

Here is a Lucia in the same comune in 1887 with a little twist
of the last name. Not so sure about this Lucia.
familysearch.org/pal:/...1827351980

Father is Cosimo and mother is Vincenza Frenchitti(sp)

Maybe some help?
Paul

Thanks for replies. Sorry I have not responded earlier. Nuccia- I cannot just write to Caserta unless I know exactly where lucia was born i.e. town. In fact I have been to Caserta town hall and nothing there.
Thanks Paolo47 for the links. The Pomella link is definitely my grandfather and my cousin found this also. Lucia, unfortunately not the same one but thanks for trying.
Just to update my search I have found records for Lucia's brother. He died in WW1. Through these records I have found where my g grandfather was born so will be chasing up this lead.

Still trying to find Rosa Patriarca my g grandmother and Pietroangelo's mother. So sad that these records were destroyed in ww2. The made up records are very sparse. There was a brother Raffaele Pomella who also went to UK and died there but can find no record of him at all in Cassino.

I knew a Frank Patriarca (now deceased) who was born in Philadelphia ---- he lived in Germany, but also had a home at the South Jersey shore near Atlantic City......I believe his widow still lives in Germany, he had a son in NJ and a daughter in Texas.

Thanks Charliemis for your reply. I think Patriarca is quite a common name in Italy. As far as I am aware she did not travel outside Italy. There could be a link somewhere with Frank Patriarca but I don't know of any German connection

You might try checking the parish records at the Catholic church in Manchester where they married. The priest should have entered the name of the parish they were baptized in.

Thanks Italysearcher. I will certainly follow this up but have never seen any thing recorded on church records. Would the Italian parish be recorded in a different place than church register ? I have looked at lots of entries for St Peter s Italian church in Holborn. Nothing on the marriage entries. Have you ever seen an entry yourself ? I am intrigued.

The ones I have seen were on Italian records but that would indicate that the Catholic priests did ask for that information since you can't be married in a Catholic church unless you can prove you have been baptized. Instead of relying on the online records why not write to the priest (or go in person), he may have the forms they would have filled out. What you see on line are just the official entries.
