As you know, I am trying to review and transcribe all the records of Montalto Uffugo. This will take years since this is no small town. But, I am also trying to keep track of my family and a few others that have inter-mingled with mine. My grandfather so far had 106 first cousins not including the family of his step-father who is in the family tree anyway because of his step father's mother who was a Garrafa (the sister of Domenico). I literally have hundreds of Napolitano's many of which I do not know how they are connected because I am missing information on the patriarch's mother. As I go back further, I am getting more and more confused. I just received the 1850's records and find I am lost - I don't know who many of these people are. Shocked To complicate matters more the birth records of the 1850's do not have the grandparents names on them. I am finding Napolitano men and women through the births of their children as I transcribe entire years that I do not know. I have hundreds of people not in my family tree because I do not know where they go yet and they have gotten lost in the mountains of data. How can I organize these mountains of data to include those not yet in my family tree? I am getting quite lost and excel won't help me here.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Cathy, I would use a Genealogy Software to manage all these data.

Livio,
I do use genealogy software to keep track of my own family and that works great. There are currently 726 people there all born before 1910. Shocked It's the people that I don't know who they go with that I am having the problem with. I have a number of people I do not know who their mother's were so I don't know where to put them. They are all alone with their children and grandchildren until I can figure out who they are and where they belong (or if they belong) in my family tree. I want to put these unknowns in one place so I can begin to try to find all their marriage or birth records if I can. There are so many - I need to organize their data. Most of them have father's names that could be one of many people. Luigi, Domenico, Vincenzo - every branch of all the familes had these names. Confused

I would put them in a different database, managed by the genealogy software. In this way you can add the known relationships and after futrther analysis you may transfer/copy them in your family database, when appropriate.
