Since discovering my gr-gr-gr grandfather's death act (I discussed it in another thread yesterday) I wanted to write a letter to Messina to obtain his birth and possibly his parents marriage.

Would it be better to write to The Archivo di Messina or The Comune di Messina? Any suggestions?

I wrote this (very bad) letter in Italian (Circolo Calabrese website generator)
Could anyone help me clean it up? Also, could something be inserted that I would like the full extract, with the important info (instead of a summary).

I am planning on sending money with this letter, any advice on that would be great as well.

here is my (rough) letter:

01 giugno 2008
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Messina
98100 MESSINA ME
ITALY

Egregi Signori,
Mi chiamo James Bianco, ed abito negli Stati Uniti all'indirizzo sopradetto.
Sposato Antonia SOFIA circa 1825.

Distinti saluti,

James Bianco

Thanks everyone!

NO: ask if you (eventually) have to send money.

I think you can write to:

Dott.ssa Maria Intersimone Alibrandi
Responsabile Archivio di Stato di Messina
Via 24 Maggio, 18 is. 291
98100 Messina

01 giugno 2008

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Messina
98100 MESSINA ME
ITALY
(Only if you have a negative answer from Archivio di Stato)

Gentile Dott.ssa Alibrandi
mi chiamo James Bianco, ed abito negli Stati Uniti all'indirizzo sopradetto.

Distinti saluti,

James Bianco

Shocked Wow!

Thank you so much Luca for that translation!! I will send first to the Archivio and then if no response, the Comune.

I will make sure to update this thread with their response.

A million thanks!

Jim

See Jim,

I told you NOT to send any money unless they ask you. Smile

I have also been busy trying to write some letters to see how far back I can go on my dad's line. I can't seem to get further than his grandparents because like your family they kept moving around so much. Besides, these tiny towns in Reggio..they could have been for anywhere!
