I am helping Amanda who is just getting started...any help is appreciated!!!

Hi John,
Unfortunately, I am stuck more on the LaBarbera side, but am waiting on a phone call from my grandma with, hopefully, some more helpful information. This is what I have so far...

Giuseppe LaBarbera married to Filomena (possible last name = Taibi). They are from somewhere around Palermo - dates, exact cities, and the maternal side are what I'm working on now. They would have been married in the late 1800's and had 2 boys and one girl.

Girl - Josephine LaBarbera and she married Quartuccio (moved to St. Louis, Mo)

Boy #1 - Giaocchino LaBarbera - he came over from Parca, Palermo - moved to St. Louis too. He was married and had kids - I have all of those details written down if you need them.

Boy #2 - My great grandfather - Giuseppe Labarbera married my grandmother Rosalia Pisciotta. On the Ellis Island manifests it shows that Giuseppe was from Parca (which is a non existing city) and Rosalia came from Montelepre. On thier marriage certificate it shows the comune of Altomonte in the province of Palermo.

My grandmother says that she went to visit some of her fathers (LaBarbera) relatives in Italy, but she is 82 and having a hard time remembering what city and how the relatives were related. She is looking for papers from her trip to try and help me. I'm stuck after this... but I will keep you informed as I find things out. I think I might go to a family history center today to see if they have any ideas. If you have any other tips on how I can get past my slight road block it would be very helpful.

Take care, Amanda

Giuseppe's manifest for reference

Rosalia was traveling with Giuseppe.

Amanda welcome to Gente!

Do you have manifests for the people listed? Do you have census information? Are you looking to trace living relatives in the US and Italy and/or are you looking to trace ancestors?

Let us know so we can help you out if possible.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Only a little clue.....
It's possible that Parco is the actual town of Altofonte:

it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altofonte

Altofonte (Parcu in siciliano) o Parco fino al 1930 รจ un comune di 9.649 abitanti della provincia di Palermo.

The name of the town of origin in the manifest is Parco.
And I believe the marriage was in Altofonte. (Altomonte is in the province of Cosenza)

I think you're correct Laura.

Here are two links that Livio had provided on another site on the same subject (Parco is now Altofonte)

Hi everyone,
I have been running around all day today, but am happy to be sitting down finally to write all of you. I am Amanda... thanks so much for all your help - I am so excited to be sorting through all of these facts and it feels so nice that everyone is so friendly and willing to help. I have notecards all over my kitchen table with LaBarbera and Pisciotta names, dates, and cities... I was lucky enough to find some more papers in a large box of photos that my grandmother had given to my sister. I'm sure that I will have many more questions as time progresses. I've been a little bit stuck on our Pisciotta side from Montelepre and on my great grandfather LaBarbera's side. I am going to check out some of the links that you all suggested to see if I can push through the mess- thanks again for your help... I'll stay in touch, talk with you soon, Amanda

Welcome Amanda,
the microfilm at FHL have a complete number of records from 1820 to 1902.
If you ever need any official certificate from Altofonte,
this is the address where to write:

Comune
Ufficio di Stato civile
Piazza Falcone e Borsellino 18
90030 Altofonte (PA)
Italy

Person in charge is Mr. Francesco PINTO
phone 091-6648228

If you need records bfore 1820, you can check the following FHL microfilm of Santa Maria parish in Altofonte

www.familysearch.org/E...siastici++

I hope it helps
bye Riccardo
