I was wondering if anyone out there knows how I can find information on war records for those who served in Garibaldi's army?
I have a friend who has an ancestor who served in his army but not much information about him beyond that.
Any help I can get would be much appreciated thanks.

On this other link you'll find the name of those who served in the "Expedition of the Thousand". Names are followed by their father's name, place of birth, date of birth. For some of them you'll find also the place where they lived or died and occupation. At the bottom of the list, there are another 16 names (the first one is Anita Garibaldi) that Garibaldi added to the others as he considered them "worthy of being listed with The Thousand". Actually, Garibaldi also formed other volunteer units but there are no lists on line.

I Mille di Garibaldi

Thanks Ada, much better list than mine. A quick look indicates that all but a few were from North Italy. I just saw a presentation on this subject where the Professor showed proof that Lord Gladstone (in England) funded in part this war. He also pointed out that the South was always unified, it was the North that was constantly at war.

Thank you both for those links. My ancestor isn't there but I guess there is no harm in leaving the family history as is: "according to family legend...."

I’d like to share a find regarding those who fought during this time, from a searchable google book:

This shows my ancestor has having served (or available to serve?) between 1866-70.

Cronistoria documentata della rivoluzione in Basilicata del 1860 e delle cospirazioni che la precedettero (Google eBook), by Michele Lacava, Cav. A. Morano, 1895

Thanks for sharing the link - google books is one of the best free resources available, isn't it?

I'm looking for a list of names of members of the Barsaglieri who were involved in the Breach of Porta Pia in Rome in 1870. I've already looked at the suggestions in this forum with no success.
Any other suggestions?

Hi:

You can search on this site:

archiviodistatotorino....search.php

more than 35,000 soldiers of Garibaldi.

I am also having trouble finding info on an ancestor of mine who was a bersagliere involved with Porta Pia. Couldn't find anything. My family wanted to know for sure if its true. Hopefully I will find something. Good Luck!
