hi, i am entirely new to this. i need help in information on how to find my mother or her family. i was born in bovalino calabria in 1949 and orphaned at birth. i was sent to a convent in reggio, the name in english was orphange for unwanted children that is all i know about it other than the ill memories and that it no longer exists. after being adopted by a loving family at the age of 13 in new jersey now all deceased but myself i would like to find my birth mother or info on her. what would be the best way to go about this. any direction would be great help, thank you.

Welcome to Gente, deecee.

Since you mentioned you were orphaned at birth, I'm assuming that the birth record at the comune of Bovalino shows your birth name and parent(s) names, and that your birth name was the one with which you entered the orphanage and were adopted. Am I correct in this assumption?

I wasn't able to locate the presence of the surname Daprile or D'Aprile in Bovalino in the Italian white pages. It does appear in Calabria but in the Cosenza province.

I'd suggest you write the comune in Italian and request a copy of your birth certificate but I'm unsure what documentation you'll need to provide.

Perhaps one of our native Italian Gente members can help you compose the letter and shed some light on what documentation you'll need.

Yes, you need to write to Bovalino civil record office
and request the copy from your real birth record.
There are written many informations that would eventually
bring you to your natural mother.
I hope in that document there is not written that the mother
or parents didn't want to show her/their names otherwise
it could be a problem.
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo
