Hey everyone. I am new to this forum but could use any help that anyone might be able to provide. My Great-Grandfather came to the USA when he was 13 years old, with two brothers. He grew up in the small town of Polistena. He, and his brothers were adopted by a family with the last name of Amato. It is the name that my family has used for the last three generations. He came to this country in 1906. My Grandfather and a few cousins went back there with our Great-Grandfather to discover that the church, with our family records, had been destroyed during WW2. It is known that his two brothers returned during WW2 to fight on the Italian side. The family that adopted my Great-grandfather, at least according to some of my family, might have been related to us. So we might have been related to the Amato family in some way.

I know his first name was Vincenzo.

Any help would be great!

I did find a ship manifest for a Vincenzo Amato traveling with two other Amato`s a perhaps a mother who fit your Vincenzo's age and year of arrival but they were from Alcamo. Could this be him?

Thank you! I know he traveled with his two brothers however I do not recall ever hearing that their mother traveled with them. It would have to be their adopted mother if you will, since they were orphans. Thanks for this info!

I just reread what you said. Ah yes, if it says he was traveling with two others that would be his two brothers! One, according to my cousin might have been named Roberto. I think you found him! I know my Grandparents went to Ellis Island and found his name in their records.

Because the church was destroyed in Italy where my great-grandfather is from, that is why trying to find information on him is very difficult. I am hoping to find out as much as possible.
