On the all documents I have for my great grandmother, including her death cert., her maiden name is written as Risidi or Rusiti neither of which I believe are correct. I've tried converting it to different spellings but haven't been successful. I was hoping to get some input from someone experienced who could help with some alternative spellings. All the documents were written by Americans the name was being spoken to. Thanks for any input.

Do you know what comune she was from? Sometimes I go to the Italian white pages and type in some last names and see if any are hits for the town in question. www.paginebianche.it

There is a surname Risi that has come up a few times in the Prov. of Frosinone. (comunes of Sant'Elia Fiumerapido and Cassino)

Have you also tried Rizzuto? That might be a variation.

Not sure if you can see this but ...

On the manifest the family is coming from Oppido and she is listed as Francesca Risidi. I don't know where exactly my ggm was born. I would think she came from a place nearby. I've only found 1 or 2 people with the name Risidi in Italy. I did look in the phone book and there was one. I'm waiting on some new LDS microfilm from Oppido and hope that will give me some clues. In the meantime I'm trying to think of different spellings for her. It seemed strange that she was coming from Reggio di Calabria with such a rare name. Thanks Nucci, I didn't try Rizzuto. I've been using the gold form to find different spellings but wasn't coming up with people from the towns around Oppido. I suppose it is possible she came from farther away. Thanks for the input, always a great help to get your opinions.

Can you scan the record and post a copy here for us to see? Someone might be able to help if they see it.

Sorry, I don't have a scanner. The handwriting is very clear and the name is written with 3 different spellings, very confusing.

If your Oppido is the one in Reggio Calabria, try this link:

calabria.indettaglio.i...0Mamertina

They give you the option to type in surnames in the "starts with" mode.

How about this one: Rizzica

I did a search in Oppido with "starts with Rizzi" because z in Italian has a ts sound.

Thanks for the link, that's a good one to know. I'm trying to find someone with a scanner so I can post it. If not I'll try to take a photo.
