Hello Central Italy!!
I am in a tail spin! I have been searching where Giuseppe Farese/Foresi/Forese is from. The live relatives today in CT are using Forese as their last names given all the misspellings over the years!!
Rosary Church of Bpt. CT USA just sent the attached doc. to me when I asked for sacramental data on his marriage to Mariam Angelina Pannone Wedding date was 7-14-1907. I made some posts on S. Italy site here but just received this new data. I am certain my grandmother was from Caiazzo Caserta. However. Grandpa Giuseppe has been a challenge for me!! His Petition for naturalization doc. from Dec. 1942 said he was from Paotlea and arrived at Ellis Island Nov 11.1906 and was born on March 19, 1877
But the attached says something about Paojola Macerata and refers to Felice as one of the family names!
Any thoughts, pondering or otherwise would be graciously welcome.
Thank You and Best Regards
Rich

Hi find.foresi.esposito,

I replaced your attachment with a link so that it would be easier to read your post.

It's very odd that not only in Macerata, but in all the Marches Region, there aren't persons with surname Farese: gens.labo.net/en/cogno...enera.html (you have to insert your surname in the field "cognome" on the left)
It seem's to be most common in Campania Confused

A different answer come from "Foresi".
It seems typical of Marches and there are 210 results in paginre bianche for Macerata's province: www.paginebianche.it/e...dv=mc&ind=
this is the list of Macerata's municipalities: it.wikipedia.org/wiki/...i_Macerata
I didn't understand which is yours!

Hi Rich,
Nice to have you aboard with us... Though I can't guarantee it - I bet the genealogy bloodhounds we have on "Gente" will be able to help and guide you in the right direction.

You keep 'em supplied with info - they'll help all they can. You'll see!

I found this about the name Farese:
FARESE: Di origine campana delle provincie di Napoli ed Avellino, dovrebbe derivare dal termine longobardo fara (corpo di spedizione militare).

It says:
FARESE: Originally of (either) bells (campana), or Campania (spelling error) in the Province of Naples and Avellino, it should be derived from the longobard term 'fara' (a military expedition force).

From personal knowledge I know that in some British regiments - mainly the Household Cavalry, their officers called Farriers who were once blacksmiths now carry a ceremonial farriers axe.
>FARRIER & AXE< So the name might derive from the trade of balcksmith.

I think the name of the town is Rosola; now we have a Rosora (sometime called Rosola) in Province of Ancona (Marches) at the boundary with the Province of Macerata.
I suggest you to address a letter to

Ufficiale dello Stato Civile
Comune Di Rosora
Via XX Settembre, 11
60030 Rosora (AN)

and ask for a "copia integrale dell'atto di nascita" for Giuseppe Foresi (o Farese) son of Pasquale, born around 1877 (don't indicate the date you already know, because if it isn't correct they will not look further) and keep your fingers crossed for the reply.

HI Everyone!
Carole and Luca!
Thank You again for looking at all this! I have added Giuseppe’s decltn. of Intent from 1942. Father Mauriello of the Rosary Church suggests it may be Paola in Macerata! Looking at the map it looks like there is a town with that name in Marche.
I am just confused a bit looking at his marriage record from the church.
I could understand Mari Angela Pannone could have had Mastroianni as her maternal parent. But if Giuseppe was a Farese-Foresi-Forese I can't understand who Pasquale and Palma Felice could be on that document.
Again I am very grateful for your advise on this! I will write the towns you mention. I will also be writing their official marriage cert from Bpt. CT. This stuff is slow going if you work full time!!
Hi Nuccia! You may want to put this on a link too if you get time. Not that skilled yet!! If I can be of any help in CT please let me know. Best Regards Rich
kiss

Can you post the link a that town?

Pasquale is Giuseppe's Father.
Palma is Giuseppe's mother.

Good idea Wink

HI Luca!
Correct me if I am wrong?
So Giuseppe and all his children should have had a last name of Felice!
I mentioned this to Mom when I first saw a copy of this record this past Friday but I could not believe it!!
Can you imagine your name going from Felice to Farese to Foresi and my cousins in town are using Forese as their last name!
I can only wait to see the copy of their Marriage Lic. I just sent for!!
I will post that too when I get it!
If I ever get his birth cert. the New York Consulate will have a difficult time with endowing our family with a dual citizenship!!
No problem I am learning some Italian and I still want to meet some cousins!!
Wow.. What a research project this one is!!
Again I Thank You SOOO Much for your thoughts on this.
Best Regards

Hi Luca!
I don't know what I was thinking! Maybe I was hoping it was Paola da Cosenza (Calabria), Italy! Instead of Pajola or Rosola! I give up!!
Forgive me on that one!!
Thanks Again and Enjoy your week!!
Rich

...

In Italy people take the surname of their father; Giuseppe's last name is Farese and his children las name is also Farese.

Felice is the surname of Palma, Giuseppe's mother.
Giuseppe's father is Pasquale Farese.

Rich - you have got it a bit mixed up. Let me try and explain how the names work on certificates:

Giuseppe di (son of) Pasquale e (and) Palma (surname) Felice (name).

So if this was being recorded in the USA it would read:

Giuseppe, son of Pasquale Farese (etc) and of Felice Palma.

Italian custom has the surname placed BEFORE your name and a woman KEEPS her own surname all her life.

So - in our custom she would be recorded as:
Felice Farese - nee Palma

In Italy she would be recorded as:
Palma Felice - in Farese

It is confusing, but I hope this helps you understand the custom...

Carole, I'm sorry, but I must contradict you, Palma is the first name and Felice is the last name. In all the document the first names are preceding the surname...
