Just wondering if any one has records from San Fili, I am looking for my great Grandmother Cherubina Esposito, born possible between 1856 and 1876, also married a Giuseppi Onofrio, in San Fili. Death in San Fili between 1913 and 1921

Hi tteti
Yes, I think Cathy has done an awful lot of work on San Fili.

Have a browse on the Southern Italy threads - I'm sure there is a lot there...

Hi Tony! I have been wondering where you have been! Have you seen this thread HERE
Just a thought - maybe you can get together and look for each other's family on films. Each of you can take a different film. It might be mutually beneficial. And who knows, you may find a family connection.

Whoa Tony! lol I was not volunteering to look at San Fili - so sorry if you misunderstood. I meant you and the poster (Aiello) from the thread I quoted should work together. I kind of have my hands full right now with my 4 towns and some personal issues.
Don't forget to check all your names on Cosenza Exchange since they are all Montalto surnames too.
Did you check the Cosenza Archive? If not I can do it.

Sorry about the misunderstanding, I haven't checked the Cosenza exchange so thank you. If Aiello wants too I will gladly work with him if he tells me what he would like me to do for him

Tony - What approximate time frame were Cherubina and Giuseppe born? I found a few in the archive site. Also when looking for Giuseppe you may also want to try the name D'Onofrio. I noticed in Montalto at least 1 D'Onofrio family that dropped the D' around the 1870's. I would imagine the same is possible in San Fili.

Cathy I am assuming that the birth date for Cherubina and Guiseppi are around 1850 but that is a guess. Thanks for the hint on D'onofrio

I received my Sanfili microfilm today and was so excited, but also so disapointed. The images were so small they were almost totally unreadable on the machine I had to work with. I tried to take photos, but they turned out poorly. ANd then the fact everything is in Italian made it no easier to perceive. I am going back next week with a better camera and a magnifying glass. I have found some promising leads, but will not know thier significance until they are translated. Wish me luck!

You have the wrongs lens or are on the wrong reader. The small Italian films need a bigger lens. Ask your center of they have other size lenses.

Is there someplace to find an English version of the Italian registers? I was hoping to just fill in the blanks with what is on the film for later investigation. Our local research center is not open again until next week. I will then find out if they have a differant lens.

Ifyou find what you are looking for scan it and post it here. Someone will translate. If you want a better idea of the formatting of the records in english, I have done a few pages on my website you can look at.. It will give you an idea of where to look for the pertinent data. I have put an english translation of the forms for the pubblicazioni and atto di nascita (birth acts) on my website.
Assuming you are looking at birth acts, look here for an english translation of the form.
We are here to help, feel free to ask anything.

CAn you imagine going to the garden, digging your garlic and clipping your basil, handrolling your pasta and layering your lazangia with all the anticipation of a grand meal? You smell all the wonderful aroma for hours as your mouth waters, excited for the final thrill of tasting such a special dish. Then as you take it from the oven have it slip from your hands and splatter all across the kitchen floor. That is about how sad I am over these Sanfili films. After waiting weeks for them to arrive, the local LDS center does not have the right lens to view them. I have tried a magifying glass, and on three differant occasions taking pictures of them, but as of yet found a way of getting a clear enough picture to actually be able to read them. I can make out some names, but not enough to know if they are in fact my family. SOOOOOO frustrating to be so close, but still now answers. My only option it appears is to have the films ordered in by another LDS center that has the right lens and a printer. The closest one is a couple hours away. So it may be months yet before I can get there. If I make any progress I will get back and let you know. Thanks so much for all your guidance and advice. But my Aiello connection will appearantly have to wait a bit longer.

That's terrible! Are you sure they don't have a machine to view the smaller films on? At my center I asked the first couple of times and no one knew...I finally figured it out on my own. The lens I use is 52X ??. Double check - it can't hurt. There are only 2 machines in my center that have it. I have to go to a center further from my home too because the center that is closer did not have the proper equipment and was only open 2 hours a week. I am used to the distance now. It is well worth the effort. Make sure the new center has a scanner so you can copy of images digitally.

This is horrible! How can they NOT have the correct lens?? That's just insane. I haven't been to my local FHC for a while and have just been uploading what I already had copied earlier. Refresh my memory..does your center not have a scanner/copier? If it does, you may be better off just to copy them all and view them from home (sorry if this has already been discussed earlier but I haven't gone back and re read the whole thread).
