Interesting that Carmine's employer on the draft card is AT&T in Cleveland Ohio.

Thanks for that WWI Record Biff and Billie! That will really thrill my cousin and that address matches one she had so it is definitely her Carmine! WOO HOO! She thought he went to Cleveland after he went back to Italy and married. I just noticed on that card...yesterday would have been Carmine's birthday!

How was your coffee Cathy?
Don't know there but here in Italy yesterday was March 17. Carmine was born on 27th..... lol lol

Ada

That is interesting Biff! It would appear his time there may not have been as brief as his grand daughter thought!

Cathy,

Found this manifest for a Carmine Guido, with mother Angela Lucchetta and sisters Concetta, Rosina and Maria, from a 1910 manifest, last residence and place of birth San Fili, destination Pueblo CO to join what might be Ferdinando Guido although first name is abbreviated. Let me know what you think.
Lines 26 and following. Also see line 16 for a Eugenio Guido from San Fili headed to Chicago.

Hello, Elizabeth Very Happy !

edited--abbreviation looks like Frco which could be short hand for Francesco. Sorry about that. I'll keep looking.

Biff
Carmine was in the hospital! Would it tell why?

Cathy I posted the detainee list below the manifest and it doesn't state why.

I found a listing for Ferdinando Guido but it's a detainee list .... May 4, 1901 the ship is Belgravia ...... the age is about right for his year of birth. I can't pull that actual manifes though.

Biff come work some magic!! Smile

Never mind I think I've got it I just have to get it to save Evil or Very Mad

1901 manifest of Ferdinando (very good possibility this is the correct person)

detainee list

Age matches pretty close and check the manifest....I don't know if the numbers by his name are for him or the guy below him. Looks like 3 of them traveling together and the other two were discharged on the pier. All three from San Fili.

Based on the 1901 manifest which I believe is for Carmine's father Ferdinando, the 1910 manifest I posted is now in question since a couple of the daughters were born after 1901. So either Ferdinando at some point returned to Italy and then came back to the US or the manifest isn't for the correct family.

I checked the Illinois death index databases and did not find a record for a Ferdinando Guido.

OMG!!! That is the connection I was looking for! Thank you so much Billie! One of the men travelling on the ship with Ferdinando was Domenico Blasi! This is proof the Blasi's knew the Guido's in Chicago and probably in San Fili. He is the answer to why Carmine went back to Italy and married Rosina Napolitano so quickly after his arrival there! Woo hoo!!!! Thanks! You and Biff are amazing!! kiss

Unfortunately I cannot check the archive to see if I could find other Carmine's because the archive is not up to Carmine's year of birth yet. I wish I had San Fili films. I am sure Ferdinando is the correct Ferdinando because he was the only one with that name in his age group born in San Fili.
Ferdinando may have died in Ohio or Toronto??? I will ask my cousin although she has not responded to my other inquiries yet. I doubt she knows so she may be checking with other family. I am pretty sure Carmine died in Toronto.

This could be useful. rjjamer (jeff) posted on Gente a few weeks ago and he has all of the san fili films, said he'd look up info if anyone needs it. Maybe he can find the marriage of Ferdinando and then you'll know if the 1910 manifest would be correct for his wife. Try sending him a pm Cathy.

Possible 1910 census for Carmine

Another possible 1910 census (first family on the page)

The first census is probably not our Carmine - the school is St. Mary's and our Carmine attended Bryant School, Chicago IL. He also went to Harrison Technical High School in Chicago. I like how it lists the students as inmates! Shocked
The second one....does that say Harrison Street? That is a good possible. What is the wife's name (I cannot make it out). Interesting that the last child is listed as a stepson. Maybe 2 wives? And more Blasi's are below! Very interesting census!
These are some of the addresses we know he lived at. Will that help?
729 So Paulina St. Chicago IL;
3623 So Emerald Ave. Chicago IL;
4355 W. Harrison St. Chicago IL.
4040 E. 44th St. Cleveland Ohio in, 1918
