The second census says W. Polk. The addresses that you listed......do you know approximate years he was living at those addresses? It would help in the search for a census.

LOL um no. But I can ask. I know she has letters to him with postmarks so we should have an idea. Let me check with her. I will be offline until later tonight - I am going into a meeting then leaving work and having some fun with a friend at dinner. Very Happy Thanks for all your hard work!

By the way.....the address for Carmine on the WWI draft registration is listed as 4251 Shields Ave. Chicago,IL. The Ohio address is for who employs him (I believe).

Louise Rossano I have learned is Carmine's sister - Rossano is her married name. Thanks Biff! Very Happy
Updated information:
After messaging my "cousin" I have learned the following:
Carmine Guido's siblings were Federico Guido and his sister Pasqualina Luisa Guido born December 29, 1886 - died June 12, 1975 in California, she married a man named Rossano. Carmine's mother's name was Vittoria Palermo born January 20, 1861, died 1940.

1901 manifest of Ferdinando (very good possibility this is the correct person)

detainee list

Age matches pretty close and check the manifest....I don't know if the numbers by his name are for him or the guy below him. Looks like 3 of them traveling together and the other two were discharged on the pier. All three from San Fili.
This appears to me to be the correct manifest for Ferdinando (Carmine's father). The other manifests and censuses do not ring any bells for me. Thanks so much Billie!! You rock!

Great find Biff!! He did have an uncle named Giuseppe! Giuseppe died in San Fili in the 1940's so I never looked for him (unless I misread the notation on the archive). I assumed he stayed in San Fili.

Edited to add notation.

Very interesting Biff!! Note Frank's middle name too - spelled like the comune of Paola (or Paolo in this case) is pronounced in local dialect. That is the reason it took me years to find out where my grandfather came from lol

Cathy,

Still looking for Carmine and Pasqualina's ship manifest(s) or any other information. The following 1910 Chicago census might be for Pasqualina and Frank. Married 5 years. Daughter Rossie (Rosa) born Illinois. Immigration year for both appears to be 1901. No Carmine.

My thoughts previously were that Carmine might have come over with Pasqualina and that's still a possiblity based on the census.

I'm also wondering how he ended up working in Cleveland. Were there family/village connections in Ohio?

I also found uncle Giuseppe Guido's manifest and can post if you would like me to.

Baci,
Biff

No one knows how he ended up in Cleveland I don't think but I will ask.
I would like to see that manifest - we may recognize other names or addresses. Ernesto was Carmine's first name (although he did not use that name). I would think if he came over that early his mom would have been with him. Her name was Vittoria Palermo born January 20, 1861, died 1940.

Biff and Cathy....I'm wondering if Carmine actually lived and worked in Illinois but was employed by a company headquartered in Ohio and that is the address he supplied for his employer. You may have missed it but he listed his residence (address) as 4251 Shields ave. Chicago Illinois.

That is a real possibility. He did live in Cleveland at some point though. Perhaps that is how he got there - maybe they transferred him!
