Ciao. I have copies of many marriage certificate from Naso, Messina Sicily. On the certificates I previously obtained there is the statement :"la sua moglia legitima", which means his legitimate wife. Just recently on another family birth certificate it states "conventi". This means either living together, boyfriend. Now I have a copy of the actual marriage certificate that indicates they were married why would it state "conventi" on the birth certificates of their children? Can anyone explain how there can be a record of a marriage and then this notation? I truly don't care about "their personal preferences" but for genealogicial purposes I am curious? Grazie.
I spoke with an Italian friend from Milano and she was familiar with the statements and I will be bringing her the actual documents for her to view. If I find out I will advise but would enjoy any feedback.
