Ciao. I have copies of many marriage certificate from Naso, Messina Sicily. On the certificates I previously obtained there is the statement :"la sua moglia legitima", which means his legitimate wife. Just recently on another family birth certificate it states "conventi". This means either living together, boyfriend. Now I have a copy of the actual marriage certificate that indicates they were married why would it state "conventi" on the birth certificates of their children? Can anyone explain how there can be a record of a marriage and then this notation? I truly don't care about "their personal preferences" but for genealogicial purposes I am curious? Grazie. Wink I spoke with an Italian friend from Milano and she was familiar with the statements and I will be bringing her the actual documents for her to view. If I find out I will advise but would enjoy any feedback. Very Happy

Could you post the document? Usually it should read "sua moglie legittima seco lui convivente" = "his legitimate wife, living with him"

Not related to your question, but familysearch added records yesterday for Messina, with Naso included 1866-1910:

Thank you for letting me know about Family Search and Messina and Naso. I went on it and the records are clear and easy to read. Again, grazie. Camilla
