Can anyone tell me, on the L.D.S. / Familysearch site if it lists the birth & christening within a day or so of each other, does that mean the child didn't survive???

Thanks, Gina

Gina I am not understanding your question. Usually children were christening within a few days of their birth. I the early records you might find that information directly on the birth act itself on the side column. If the child was stillborn it would list on the birth act MORTE below their name - if the child died a few days later there would be a death act for them.

Hi Nuccia,

Actually you answered my question. I wasn't sure if it meant the baby has lived or died. I didn't know it would say stillborn or morte on the listing. I only wanted to know because I had found several with the same name of the baby & parents with different years & I thought it was because the child didn't survive & they named the next one by the same name. I know that was a common practice back then.

Thank you, Gina

Yes , if the child died they would often re name the next child the same name. There would still be a death act for the first child though or a birth act which lists the child was stillborn.

Hi Nuccia,

What is the Italian translation for "Stillborn" and where would this info be found on the Atto di Nascita?

And for Gigi, I actually had 3 Uncles and 2 Aunts with the same given names who all died as infants or very young children: there 3 Domenico and 2 Anna who were named after my Grandmother's parents. My Dad was the only child to make it.

It is usually listed right below the given name and 'morte' comes to mind. I will try to locate one to show you to confirm.
