From what I can see, your Giovanni PARISI came over in 1898 and US records indicate he was born between 1 Apr 1873 and 10 Apr 1873. He died 20 Feb 1952 in Clarksburg WV of Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease and is buried in Stonewall Park. His death records state he was the son of Antonio and KATHERINE PATSY (info provided by his son Antonio).

Barbara ROMANO came over in 1900 (and then again in 1907) with her daughter Vittoria (b. 1897 in S. Giovanni in Fiore) and her son Antonio (b. 1906) 1 year old also born in Italy. All were sick and hospitalized at Ellis. Antonio died there on 6 Jun 1907.

They had the following children:

1. Vittoria "Buffy" PARISI - 1897 S. Giovanni in Fiore, married Michele BAFFI 6 Jan 1912 in Harrison W.V. died 13 May 1972 in Monongalia #211458.

2. Antonio PARISI - Abt 1906 in S. Giovanni in Fiore, died 7 Jun 1907 At Ellis in New York.

3. Antonio "Tony" PERRI: 8 Mar 1908 - 7 Nov 1957 #847178, husband of Rose. Died of Myocardial Infraction and is buried at Holy Cross.

4. Frank born about 1910 in WV.

5. Rossa PERRI (aka Rose Marie PERRIS) B. 30 Jan 1911 In Industrial Harrison WV. Married George NUTTERA on 30 Jul 1936 in Monongalia.

6. Patsy PERRIS B. 15 Nov 1915. Married Betty PARRILL 12 Apr 1943 in Harrison.

7. Catherine PARISE [Katherine Elayne PERRIS] 3 Mar 1918 married Nick Frank BARLOW 14 Jun 1936 in Harrison.

They went by several surnames in WV - Parisi, Parise, Parish, Perri, Pariso, Perris. In one record I also found Giovanni listed as Giuseppe. No record found for Giovanni on the Cosenza Archive site as of yet but I would suggest you write to Cosenza or the town of S. Giovanni in Fiore and request the record.

THANK YOU SO MUCH I KNEW A LOT OF THIS,Afew THIngs I didn't as in cause of death for my grandfather. John Perris(GIOVANNI PARISE )Also I would like to say that my grandmother always told that Antonio was taken from her(measles???) and later was told to her they threw him overboard ! ! What do you think of that? Y would they lie ? Ellis Isle people ! I plan on donating for sure Thanks again NUCCIA. My grandmother always called me Annunciata or nunciata my name is Nancy,I guess she herself put that on me LOL. Her story is sad starting with that baby Antonio. Thanks again.

Thank you Nancy - it is such a sad story but there should be a record of death at New York I would think. The link to the ship manifest which has the info for Antonio is here

Barbara Romano Make sure you look carefully at all the markings. I am still trying to see if I can locate something from Italy to confirm birth/surname spelling for them but there are several records to look through.

BTW - there are records/images for most of the info I found online. Here is the death info for Giovanni.

And thank you - donations are always welcome as they help keep the site running! Smile

thank you so much first time I saw death record(for my grandfather). I must say again my grandmother got off that boat with no baby. My grandfather said she was hysterical, her face was all scratched from grieving and crying, for how long on that boat,I don't know, but that's probably why they put her and Vittoria in the hospital. She told the story over and over.It changed her ! They are covering that up,I'm sorry, but its over now, many, many injustices done to my family and others at that time. I understand it was highly contagious on a ship and all, they brought to her the babies booties,it got back to her the baby was thrown overboard. That's her story and I believe it! Thanks again ps my granfathers mothers maiden name was Maria Rosa Lapiazzetta,I got that info from L'Ufficiale dello Stao Civile(Dominico Laratta and signed by someone, can't read he signature. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.

Can you post the document you have here for me to see?

As for Antonio - you could order the death certificate from NYC Department of Records and see what it says. It may even say how he died and where he was buried..

Antonio Parisi 2 years old Jun 6, 1907 #11655 Kings. You can use this form:
