Hello everyone, recently a new member joined The Carini Exchange Forum and is trying to establish if his grandfather might have been from Carini.

Here is the information he has:

Salvatore Pecoraro born Sicily, emigrated 1st to Argentina about 1900 and then arrived in New Orleans about 1910. He should have had a son Roberto born 1905 Argentina. His (Salvatore's) wife was possibly a Galliano (or so he thinks). The family ended up in St. Louis, Missouri where Salvatore died in the late 1930's.

Can anyone with access to New Orleans Passenger ship lists check for a Salvatore Pecoraro arriving into New Orleans about 1910?

Thank you so much

Jim

Thanks Nuccia! I can't seem to find ANYONE named Salvatore Pecoraro on the Missouri death index online from their dept. of health. I do see a few Salvatore Pecoraro's on Ancestry.com (I am not a member) arriving into New Orleans but I can't (naturally) look at them.

Crying or Very sad

I work with Pecoraro's! Shocked Since St. Louis, MO is so close to Illinois (East St. Louis is in Illinois) I checked the Illinois death database but I did not find anyone outside of the Chicago area. I'll keep looking.

Jim, does the person know Salvatore's approx. birth date??? I ask because there are a lot of Salvatores, not only arriving at New Orleans, but in NY as well Shocked

Did Salvatore had just one son? Additional "connecting" surnames would be helpful, if the person knows of any... Also, what was Roberto's wife's name???

I found a "Sam" Pecoraro, Sr. in the Missouri Death index... any chance that he might have been a Salvatore?????

Trying to make sense of it....You can whap me now hide Mr. Green

Since I do not have an Ancestry subscription either, I was checking out the records on the new LDS Labs site. A lot of Salvatore's there too. No Salvatore's or Roberto's in the 1895 Census records but I did find a number of other Pecoraro's. I was hoping they went to Argentina a few years earlier. I found several death records of Salvatore and Robert but none match the place or dates.

It appears his name in the US was Sam, and I did find a death record for a Sam in St. Louis (1941) which is here:

www.jamesbianco.com/SamPecoraro.pdf

I am waiting to hear if this is his grandfather.

Here is what he sent me most recently:

Jim
he did use Sam as
his first name in the U.S.
His death was about 1938 in St. Louis
I can't recall my grandmothers first name.
As I grew up with my mother's family I know much more about the Rennas from Avellino. Grandma's Renna first name was Generosa,
maiden name was Pisano. Her family claimed Bonanno Pisano, architect
of the leaning tower as an ancestor.
If you would let me have your tel. # I will call you.
I appreciate your efforts on behalf of my search.

James, I did find a less detailed copy of what you found and a possible census for the same family. There is a Sam, born in Italy but speaks Spanish. The only problem is the dates are all wrong which might not mean anything. Wish I could just remember my password to ancestry.. Crying or Very sad I'm going to have it reset tomorrow. Thats what you get for not writing things down,,, Evil or Very Mad

So this man has confirmed this is his grandfather, unfortunately the mother's name Viscardi is not a Carini name, I've never seen it before.

www.jamesbianco.com/SamPecoraro.pdf

Pecoraro is quite common however... but not exclusive to Carini.

All of my family is from Pecorara, Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna. Maybe the name comes from the town?

He said his family is from Sicily, so probably not. He was trying to find out if they were from Carini, which I suspect they also are not because of the Viscardi name which is not familiar to me.

It will be interesting to see where they came from.

Jim -

I found the death of 2 year old Frances Virginia Pecoraro in Louisianna.

ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/u...12dimr.txt

Considering Salvatore's mothers name (per the death record) I thought this might be something for you to look at. Maybe Salvatore's daughter or one of his brothers daughters.

See what you think. Smile
