Do you know if Vibo Valentia archives charge for military records? I was lucky in that Reggio Calabria and Benevento did not charge me.

I assume you are referring to the lista di leva. I do not know if Vibo Valentia charges but I think most of us got this document free. Ask for it and they will let you know if there are charges. Out of curiosity, what is your town in Vibo?

Hi, Cathy, the town is Briatico which used to be Cantazaro (don't mind my spelling). It is not part of VV.

I don't think charges apply but take a chance and request it and see what happens. From my experience, they will always notify you of any charges applicable prior to providing the record.

Good Luck!

I have a portion of Briatico records on my films for Brognaturo. I just got back from my FHC. I'll see what's on them. Let me know if you have names you'd like looked up for birth, marriage, death etc. and I'll see what I can find.

OMG! really? kiss Sept. 16, 1877, Baldessera Ventura, born in Briatico. His mother was Maddelena Belsito and his father was Giuseppe Ventura. What range of years do you have? I have two other Ventura's I am looking for. If you think you have some film in the 1880s, I will take a look at the potential dates. You are too kind, Billie!

I don't remember, I skipped that section on my film because it didn't pertain to me. I don't know what years it covers but go ahead and give me the info, when I go Saturday I'll check it out for you and we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Here is the link for your records
www.familysearch.org/e...o+civile++

The film numbers I have are 1965961, 1965962, 1798973, 179874

The film we share is 1965961 and the years covered for you are 1901 to 1909........you can see on the LDS list I linked for you

Doesn't look like 1877 will be on our common film but anything from 1901 on is. Let me know what you need.

Here's the link for Brognaturo LDS films. I just ordered 2016592 today. That was the only one I was missing.

Edit to add comment.........looks like we share this film also!

I just wanted to update everyone. I heard back from the VV archives. They said that I have to write to the Cantanzaro archives because for the years I am looking for Briatico was part of Cantanzaro. I had wrongly assumed that Briatico's records would all be transferred to VV. They also said that I could try writing to the comune of Briatico itself for the List di Leva. I just wrote to the archives in Cantanzaro. I will tell you if I hear anything back from them.
