A very nice person, Doug Acree, saw our family website photos and contacted me, asking if I was related to Mary Concetta Testa. This is my grandmother's sister and we lived at her house for over 30 years.

Doug sent me a chart back to 1710 of Grandma Rosa Testa Bissi ancestors in one page pdf format and a six page version that can be printed and taped together. This I did and realized my aunts and uncles would not be able to do, so had copies made at a copy center. He did send another 6 page with his name on it, as I was worried about him losing credit for the work.

I want to upload the single page version, but pdf is not allowed. Any advice Nuccia? Might scan the print, but

Doug, his wife and daughter visited her Colavita family in Sant'Elia and he took on the task of researching the immigrants from that town. He sent me Word documents listing all of them (so far) in alphabetical and chronological order, plus an Excel spreadsheet of all Sant'Elia immigrants to Auburn NY.

We are working on a way to post these and make sure that his work is credited. He says some has already appeared on the net without noting his work.

Hey Dave. Call up your document in Adobe Acrobat..........use the snapshot tool and make a window around your image......it will save to clipboard. Next open Paint and then select edit then paste.....not paste from, but paste. It will put your document there. Next go to file, then saveas and select the extension as JPG. Hope this works if it doesn't email me the document and I'll try to get it done for you then I'll email you the jpg image.

My email is EJFFTS @ gmail.com .........leave out the space before and after the @ symbol.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dave,

Here is the link for the tree (I'm emailing you the original).

Also, a link for your family photo
img140.imageshack.us/i...ssifk5.jpg

Picture of a 1940s visit from the sisters' brother in NJ.

From left, my grandfather John Bissi, Joe Testa's wife Elsie with their daughter Rachel in front of her, Mary Concetta Testa Nervina (my great aunt, but always called Grandma Nervina), Grandma Rosa Testa Bissi, Joe Testa, my foster parents, Antoinette Nervina Basile and Nick Basile. The little girl is my Aunt Eloise. My foster mother and my birth mother were cousins.

Hope this is ok Dave.

Elizabeth,

Absolutely wonderful! The link works and magnifies so we can see the ancestors. Maybe I will refer the cousins to this topic instead of sending them the pdf, then they can have an opportunity to join Gente (and Amici and italianGenealogy). I already sent some of them the 6 page version (with Doug's name & copyright) so they can assemble their own big chart. Local relatives have received copies that I had made. Also sent the photo as some had never seen it.

It is interesting how the proper names do propagate down the generations, at least at first: Grandma Rosa, the oldest girl, after her paternal grandmother Rosa Cacchione, Grandma Nervina after maternal grandmother Maria Concetta Testa, maiden name also Cacchione (hmm, seems that there are several surnames on both sides; no one left to explain). Not sure if Peter was eldest, but the paternal grandfather was Pietrantonio. Then it changes with the next two sons, Joe and Elio (I see a Giuseppe in there). Each named a son Salvatore after their father, Joe moving to Newark and Elio's son to Montreal. We call the one in Montreal Sully to avoid confusion. Rosa's youngest son is also Salvatore, but goes by Sam.

Two of my aunts are named Chiara after their grandmother, but an aunt went to city hall and Americanized the name to Carrie.

The names certainly are different two generations back. I wonder why they did not keep the custom of naming, or did it start then? I do like some of the names: Elisibetta, Aurelia, Felicia, Rachele, Irene (several there, and greatgrandmother Chiara's sister's name), Donato, Teodoro. Others unfamiliar like Polito, Sinibalto, Policarpo (from Greek bishop martyr); not sure if Geltrude is a misspelling.

Anyway, the relatives have been very pleased to see their family back in time.

Thanks again, Elisabeth, I owe you 5 generations worth.

Dave
