I have two dead ends.

Luigi Folino was born 1845 in Conflenti, Italy.
He was married in 1880 in Italy. He was buried in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, USA. How do I go about finding his wife? His son Domenico Folino was born 1 March 1883 in Conflenti, Italy. He married Maria Gigliotti 6 November 1904 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, USA.

And Gabriel David Nicastro was born 1877, likely Conflenti or nearby.

Does anyone have any advice on how proceed. I have not contacted anyone in Italy yet and would like advice on how to proceed from people who have done it Smile

Hello Davidnic,

What US records do you have for the families you mentioned--ship manifests, censuses, draft reg cards, naturalization etc. I did locate 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records for Domenico, Maria and children as well as his WWI and WWII draft cards and can post links to images if you like. It's likely that father Luigi emigrated first and his wife followed later with son Domenico. I'm checking to see if I can find any of their ship manifests. Since Domenico married in the US, his marriage record if recorded in Schuylkill county might include his mother's first and maiden name. Let you know what I find.

Biff

Domenico Folino
1901 ship manifest

1910 census

1920 census

1930 census

WWI Draft Reg Card

WWII Draft Reg Card

Luigi Folino
1910 census

Gabriel Nicastro
1910 census

1920 census

1930 census

WWI Draft card

Ship manifest for Angelina Folino--joining father Luigi in Pottsville
1904 manifest

As you may know Schuylkill county borders on Luzerne county and in the early 1900s there were quite a few "coal patch" towns in that area--i. e. Kelayres, Hazle, Honeybrook et al. My grandfather's cousin Luigi Epifano aka Louis Befano lived in both North Manheim and Kelayres. I'll see if I can find any other records in either county.

Is this your cousin's genealogy site?

Yep that's his site. It is from there that I know what I know. I am doing this research to put together a tree for my new daughter. I have my English side and PA Dutch side of the family done. So now I am gearing up for the Italian.

Thanks for the info. I will also be going to where Some of the family live (in Schuylkill) over Christmas to visit some relatives so maybe they will have some other info.

Also makes me wonder, the 1920 census lists North Maheim township and that they were railroad workers. We have some Labor archives here at Penn State, I wonder if there are any Railroad records.

Also for Folino, I know the Church in Mount Carbon they all attended. I will inquire there and see if I can get lucky for more info.
