Definitely looks like Di Iorio but is it for the correct Antonio.

BTW, I emailed John Armellino to see if he still has access to the Colli a Volturno records and asked him to check for Antonio DiIorio born about 1860-1865 since the possible ship manifest I posted previously showed Cerreto as last residence--Cerreto is a frazione in Colli and the names DiIorio and DeMarco are currently present in the town.

A long shot but you never know.

Biff

I think that looks like Rapino in Abruzzi Region ..

Good idea about emailing John. He may be able to help But I took a chance and changed the spelling a bit and came up with this..It doesn't give much information but it looks like it could fit..

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Antonio Di Jorio
Name: Antonio Di Jorio
Arrival Date: 13 Sep 1892
Estimated birth year: abt 1865
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/Race-
/Nationality: Italian
Ship Name: Neustria
Search Ship Database: Search the Neustria in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Line: 37
Microfilm Serial: M237
Microfilm Roll: M237_597
Page Number: 1

I am having trouble linking right now..Biff would you mind doing it?

thanks. seems like i need to pinpoint the date of entry to US with some corroborating source. My sister thinks the census folks may have been using his date of naturalization rather than entry, but can you tell me where or how I could look into any government records for immigration/ Naturalization?

Cathy, this was a great tip.

I found the enlistment record for my great grandfather, and the record of his parents, and their home towns.

Thanks so much.

Great! My family history center has a few films for Marzi so if I can assist you with a look up (provided I have the proper films) let me know. What were their home towns? Maybe I can help more? I have a lot of Cosenza Province films at my center.

Another option is to register on Find a Grave and see if someone can locate Maggie in the Shoshone Cemetery in Lincoln County for you or has already extracted it. Or you can call the Cemetery and see what information was given by the person registering her death (and perhaps her child's as well if she died in childbirth).

Thanks again for all the help. Oral history has it that my great grandfather, Antonio DiIorio returned to Italy after his wife died in October 1909. Since he is listed on the census for 1910 (April), we expect he made the trip home in late 1910 or after.

Based on the Passenger manifest showing he came from "Ripalda", and via Naples, do you know a site that shows passenger manifests for ships coming into Naples from 1910 to 1915?

Also, any chance anyone has cracked how to get employment info from Union Pacific railroad for the turn of the century? Antonio was a foreman for the railroad, and some think he could have just moved back east or out west after his wife died.

To my knowledge, there are no sites that show passengers lists out of the USA. Have you tried writing for his complete file under FOIA? I think you may want to consider that.

As for the employment info - gives us a bit and we'll see what we can find.

I definitely want to make a request for several of my relatives who came over (and went back) by ship. Do you have a form letter? What would the agency I request to? State? Is there a web site with details on the process?

Use this site:

www.uscis.gov/files/form/g-639.pdf

Make sure you request the COMPLETE FILE so they will send everything they have on him (and his wife) including his Immigration File (which MAY include passport info, town of birth, etc).

More good sites:
www.usimmigrationsuppo...-g639.html
www.asylumlaw.org/docs...20FOIA.pdf
and of course, Google. Hope this helps.

Following up, I did hear from John. He checked the Colli records but did not find any birth records for an Antonio DiIorio.
