Okay, so I ordered the film I was told I needed at my local FHC...it came in just before Thanksgiving and with work and the holidays, I've only managed about 2 hours of search time on it.....this film is supposed to contain birth records for Cassano allo Ionia(sp?) for multiple years including 1890 which is my grandfather's year of birth. After scrolling and scrolling, I find 1889 and then it goes straight to 1893......I find nothing for 1890 at all. Is this unusual? I've asked them to keep the film at least one more week even though I was told they were supposed to send it back this week........are the years sometimes out of order? There are several years that were not included, but the list stated those years, and 1890 should have been there. I am so disappointed right now......

Definitely disappointing. The same thing happened to me with the first film I ordered and I ended up writing away to Italy for my grandmothers birth act.

Whats the film number? Some of the microfilms state that some years are missing or are out of order. Maybe we can find you an alternative.

It is FHL INTL Film 1964794..........Nati 1874, 1876-1882, 1894, 1892, 1888-1907. My grandfather was born either 1 Aug 1890 according to his WW1 draft registration card or 3 Sep 1890 according to his Social Security application. His SS app lists his father as Carlo Pinto and his mother as Elena(no maiden name). If there is another film that you can point me towards, I would be most grateful.....

Sometimes the registration books are incomplete due to mold, water damage, fire, etc. Also, when the FHL microfilmed the records there may not have been any order/organization. It may just mean you have to look very carefully through the entire microfilm as they may be out of order or hidden. The town seems to have relied a lot on the ten year indexes too, so you might get lucky and find the index snuck in there somewhere.

It appears from the microfilm list that the records do skip around, so if you can't find it, I would suggest writing to the town for the record yourself in hopes of them being able to find it.

The Cosenza Archive online, 88.59.143.158/ascs_web/index.faces , has that a Carlo Pinto was born in Cassano allo Ionio on 26/06/1859 to Gregorio Pinto and Carmela Bruno.

I also saw that although the marriage records appear incomplete or random, the Pubblicazioni records are consistent from 1866-1910. This will give you Carlo's marriage to Elena.

Is this your Giuseppe?

Giuseppe and Family Naturalization

Here it lists his birthdate as 3 Aug 1890, place of birth Cassano. I would save myself a lot of aggravation and just write to Italy for the birth act since you already have most of the info. It will give you the name of his mother (maiden name) and if you're lucky, it may list his grandparents names and if they were alive or not. Oh and I would try spelling the last name PINTA as well.

Giuseppe Pinta Ship Manifest

Not sure if this is your Joseph and Antoniette but on the Naturalization record it states they were married in New York on Sept 7, 1913 but if you go to the IGI New York Marriages it has a listing for a Giuseppe Pinto and and Aloise Antonette Aug 14 1913 Manhattan 19958 A420

This looks like it could be the 1920 Census for Joseph and Antoinette:

1920 United States Federal Census
about Antoinette Pinto
Name: Antoinette Pinto
Home in 1920: White Plains Ward 1, Westchester, New York
Age: 25 years
Estimated birth year: abt 1895
Birthplace: New York

Spouse's name: Joseph
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Marital Status: Married

Sex: Female
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes

And the family in the 1930 Census

1930 United States Federal Census

Age: 34
Estimated birth year: abt 1896

Joseph Pinto 39
Antonette Pinto 34
Mary Pinto 14
Carle Pinto 11
Anna Pinto 9

So, if Antoninete's last name was Aloise then this could be her 1910 Census living not far from where they lived when the family Naturalized. Looks like this is a step daughter though - does that ring any bells? If it does then I will link the record for you.

this is my family.........I wondered about the naturalization record showing a different marriage date as well, I had found the other date on italgen.org earlier. And that is the right census record for Antonette..........I haven't found a death record for her father, so not sure what the situation was there. I believe Antonette's father was Giacinto Aloise, her application for a Social Security number shows her mother to be Mary Genevese and her father to be George Aloise......is George an Americanized version of Giacinto?

Maybe one was when they married in the church and the other the civil registration?

I would write for the death certificate and see what the cause of death is.

Yes, I suppose it could be - or Jack. Here is the marriage record for Giacinto and Mary:

New York City Marriages, 1600s-1800s
about Giacinto Aloise
Name: Giacinto Aloise
Spouse Name: Maria Genovese
Marriage Date: 1888
Marriage Place: Manhattan, New York, New York

Marriage ID: 0000025518
Certificate Number: 8225
Other Comments: See Family History Library catalog for films 1543971-1562446 (Manhattan) and Film 1653852 (Brooklyn), for actual certificate.

Source: Marriage Registers, Extracts from Manhattan (1869-1880) and Brooklyn (1895-1897)
Publisher: Dept. of Health, Division of Vital Statistics, New York.
Publication Place: New York, NY

Lets see what else we can find and if we can figure out where to write away for the death certificate.
