I am looking for records in Cosenza and I know that is broad. Can you help me with finding those? I am just beginning. I did find my maternal greatgrandfather and grandfather's birth records in Pedace and am trying to translate those.
I am looking for Santos Falcone in Cosenza. That is all I know. He was born 26 Oct. 1884.
Please let me know if you are able to help.
Thanks,
Pete

Pete I've split your topic from the other thread as not to confuse anyone. I have a couple of questions - Did Santo ever visit the US? Do you know what his spouses name was or any of his children? I did find a ship manifest for a Santo from Cosenza who was a barber, wife's name Raffaella born about 1885. If this sounds like it could be him let me know and I will post the record here. Or you can visit the website at:

Thank you for your quick response. My grandfather was Santos, Sam here in the U.S. He came here in 1904. I believe he was listed as "Sauto" on a ship manifest in New York, the S.S. Virginia in 1909. He was a barber. That is where I found Cosenza. On his naturalization papers from Nov. 24, 1943, it lists his age as 59, so it would be 1884. The 1930 U.S. Census lists his age as 44, making it 1886. His death notice in Racine, Wisconsin lists his birth date as October 27, 1884. His father was supposedly Raffaele but I haven't been able to confirm that yet. He married Rose Denato in Kenosha, Wisconsin June 15th, 1914 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. They lived in Racine. That is all I know. I would love to get his birth place so I can see if I could find the record through LDS Family History Center as I did with my maternal grandfather Alessio Barca and his father, Francesco in Pedace, Italy so I can get more information about mothers and wives. Thank you so much.

Santo Falcone WWII Draft Reg Card

img687.imageshack.us/i...newwii.jpg

DOB: 26 Oct 1884
Place of birth: Santa Augustina Cosenza

I have not been able to locate a Santa Augustina either as a town in the province of Cosenza, or a village in the town of Cosenza.

Anyone else have any ideas on Santa Augustina?

Biff

I see a Church of Sant'Agostino in Cosenza. Could it be that he listed the church as his place of birth? Thank you so much. This is a major breakthrough for me of the infamous brick wall.

Pete, I am sorry that I cannot really satisfy your demand. Cosenza is too far away.

Another possibility is that he was born in the area near the church. The area in the town where my grandfather who was born was referred to as Rione San Giuseppe, a district within the town somewhat similar to a ward.

I was pleased to discover through Family Search the Archives of the State of Cosenza which has begun posting their births database online. I discovered four generations of my family dating to 1820. The records go back to 1800. Thank you again for your help. Let me know if you could suggest how to obtain marriage or military service records for that period and location. Thanks again so much. You have been terrific.

I also located an area called Sant'Agostino in the town of Rende just north of Cosenza. Another possibility.

Thank you. Rende is a possibility because my aunt was returned to Italy as a little girl and she went back to a farm near or in Rende. Thanks!

I don't know if this is new but on Family History they stated that the Archivio di Stato di Consenza has begun posting their births database online. This archive should eventually cover all the towns in the province of Cosenza. I found Pedace, Consenza and Rende. I also was able to track Santo Falcone (Sante) back four generations.

Hi Pete - Yes the archives has been up for awhile. Thats where I got the info from on Sante. Do you have the link where you saw the info posted on Family search? Oh, you can order copies of many of the files/documents you found directly from the Archives. Sig.ra Nucci I believe is the director. A VERY small charge will apply mainly for photocopying and stamps which you can mail in usually after you receive the documents.

On the Family Search site it's: www.familysearch.org/l...isdictions

Lower on the page is a notice that the State of Cosenza has begun posting its birth records database online.

Hope that helps.
