I am seeking any genealogy information regarding my great grandfather Carmine Aiello.
He was born on 16 July 1858 and his immigration papers say he was from San Fili, Catanzaro, Calibria, Italy.
He immigrated to New York, USA, from the Port of Naples and arrived in New York, USA on the ship Alisia on 11 April 1881.
He married Argangila Tolve who was born in New York.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank You,

Hello, Very Happy

I saw the Petition for Naturalization and it says he is from San Fili, Cosenza.

Here is something you can do,,send an email to the Province
www.comuni-italiani.it...index.html
and ask them to send you Carmines birth act.
Here is a site to construct your letter
www.circolocalabrese.o.../index.asp

Cosenza will reply in a few weeks and tell you how to send for the record.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Another thing I would like to suggest.. You can research your Aiello
Family at a Family History Center near you.
familysearch.org/locations
They have many civil records from San Fili on film to rent.
tinyurl.com/6nr9tgm

If you need the census and other records from Ancestry.com,
we will be happy to get them for you.

Good luck to you,
Paul

The date of birth being off is odd...it's not even close. There are no other Carmine Aiello's born in 1858 in San Fili, Cosenza so I'm wondering where the July 16 date came from? There is a San Fili in Catanzaro. It's a frazione of Martirano.

It more than likely came from a US record - they're always off. I'm sure this family is from Cosenza but we'll need skays to come back to see what they think.

Just throwing this out there...my great grandfather from Montalto Uffugo (next to San Fili) used the name Enrico but when I found his birth act Enrico was not anywhere on the document. His name on his birth act was Domenico. Had his marriage record not given his name as Domenico Enrico (as well as his parents names) I never would have found his birth record. I know of several other people like this. Did your ancestor marry in Italy? If so, I would look at the marriage act.
Was your Carmine living in Bucita? Did he die there? If so I may have a photo of interest to you.

I appreciate all of the information on Carmine Aiello and his family from San Fili. And yes, his birth date is off and should be 25 Aug 1858. Thank all of you so very much..... Another request please.
Trying to get information on his wife, my great-great grandmother, Arcangilio Tolve. She was born in New York, but her parents, Gerardo Tolve, and Angela Tolve (I don't have her maiden name), supposedly came from Potenza, Italy. Estimated birth date for Gerardo Tolve is Feb 1840 and Angela Tolve is Jan 1851. Those dates taken from a 1900 Denver, Colorado Census where all of the names matched...except the last name. It was spelled Tolva vice Tolve. One has to remember though, that the census was filled out by someone other than the family. Misspellings were common.

And again, THANK YOU all for the information on Carmine Aiello.

And could you please send an email to skays @ cox.net when you respond so I will know to check this site. Thank You

Aiello married Carlo Pinto b: abt 1859 in Italy. I have no date of birth or death nor any info on her parents.
