Hello Biff, Sorry to hear about your Ft. Meyers "bummer". On this end I am trying to get into Ellis Island records to trace my Uncle Guiseppe (Guitano, etc.) Curri upn his arrrval aboard the Saxonia on June 6, 1914. Maybe who he traveled with and where he was going will get where we want to go from another direction.

Tom,

Gaetano's immigration record, line 16, travelling with the Mazzi Brothers on lines 14 and 15. Travelling "incognito" as Giuseppe to avoid conscription?

Was there another brother Pietro per Giuseppe/Gaetano's ship manifest?

Greetings Biff, In studying the information you sent (above) and I am not sure that my father, Emanuele, joined his father in Cortland. Emanuele accompanied a Bennanardi to New York where Dad met his father Tommaso and brother Geatano (Tom??). Bennardi continues to meet his sister in Cortland. Do you agree?
With reference to your inquiry about Pietre, this name has never come up --- though like my apparently new found cousin Nick Curri --- what's one more "surprise"?

Tom,

My mistake. Your father's destination was NYC not Cortland.

Smile Hello Biff, No sweat. Let's recap. We can comfortably believe that my Uncle Gaetano (Giuseppe, Tom, etc.) arrives in 1914. Who he travels with and who he is going to see in NY is still vague to me (although Pietro named)
Is there some way to uncover the names of the chldren my grand parents (Tommaso and Rosa had? My understanding is that there was Gaetano, Ewardo, a sister (name unkown), and Emanuele. Was there a Pirtro in the family who arrived earlier than 1914? This has to be a Curri held secret!!!

Tommaso Curri and Rosa Maria Fumarola marriage record.

www.antenati.san.benic...ewsIndex=0

16 Sep 1895
Tommaso, 35, a carpenter, son of the deceased Pietro Curri and Margarita Sportelli. Rosa Maria, 25, seamstress, daughter of Giuseppe Gaetano Fumarola and Marta Filomena Convertini.

I also located the birth record for Pietro Filippo Curri, Tommaso and Rosa's son. So this confirms that Gaetano's manifest was correct. Also, it's most likely that Gaetano was named after his mother's father, Giuseppe Gaetano Fumarola and that's why he's listed as Giuseppe on the manifest.

Pietro's birth record from 1895.

I'm still checking the online birth records for Tommaso and Rosa's other children but birth records only go up to 1900. I'll let you know what else I might find.

Un abbraccio,
Biff

Hello Biff Very Happy , Just returned from my volunteer drving a Veteran to the Albany VA Hospital. Luckily in chcking my Yahoo mail I discovered your latest message regarding "Pietro". Appologizing for the delay.
The information was a pleasant surprise. Please believe me that never was Pietro's name ever mentioned in our house hold. I'm following your logical line, anticipating some supportive sense to this maze. Is it possible that Pietro died before Guitano's and Emanuele's families get established?
(Pietro-1913, Guitaano-1914, Pasqual-cousin, Fumarola)

Tom,

I checked NYC death records for Pietro Curri and did not find any listings. Perhaps he returned to Italy. L'America didn't appeal to everyone.

Another son of Tommaso and Rosa.

Mario Umberto Angelo Curri, born on 18 Sept 1900 on via Alberobello in Locorotondo. Act 234.

www.antenati.san.benic...ewsIndex=0

Tom, that's all I could find. I checked the birth records for other children but didn't find any; but as I mentioned the records end at 1900.

My son and his family will be coming Saturday for a week's visit. After he leaves, I'm going to see if I can dig back further since we know Tommaso and Rosa Maria's parents' names from their marriage record. If can find their parents' marriage records, we can go back another generation!

Biff

Tom,

I found your paternal great grandparents' marriage record which has taken us back another generation to your great great granparents!

Pietro Curri and Margherita Maria Sportelli's marriage record.

Married 25 Jan 1846

Pietro, 21, a carpenter, son of Angelo Nicola Curri, a carpenter, and Margherita Leo.
Margherita Maria, 20, daughter of Vito Giuseppe Sportelli, a carpenter, and Angela Fumarola.

Married in the Church of San Giorgio Martire (Saint George the Martyr).

Evening Biff, Didn't expect you tonight, though my excitement with the information you've researched almost compells me to check into Gente when ever I have a moment.
Pleased would be an under statement though a regretful emotion is evident. Such wonderful family events are unveiling at this time that I wished to have shared with my (deceased) loving parents.
For your assistance, and friendship, I am most greatful. Tom

Biff, Any idea what a one way passage would cost at, or soon after the turn of the 1900's? (Bari to Napes to New York)?
