Found this picture of "la casa di Tallarico" in the same town.

In rechecking the passport application for Michele Tallarico it shows that his father Alfonso was born in Scigliano (Cosenza province) which is about 35 miles west of Cotronei.

Family History Center also has
Microfilm Records for Scigliano

Elizabeth,

I belive that the 1901 manifest is for a different Giovanni because the age is about 10 years off. The following is the manifest referenced by Liz previously which I believe is correct--age, occupation, brother match.

1898 manifest

Biff
Line 7 of this manifest shows Fortunata Trocina, 32, from Cotronei, joining her husband Giovanni Tallarico in NY

If you recheck the 1898 manifest, it shows Giovanni's marital status as married. Since he didn't marry Constance until 1910, Fortunata could very likely be his first wife.

Click this link:
www.familysearch.org/E...o+civile++
That us a list of the records available. Now, click this link:
www.familysearch.org/E...et_fhc.asp
That will give you the locations of the family history centers near you. If there are multiple locations near you, a call to check out their equiptment and operating hours might be helpful. I had to reorder my films at another location because the center closest to me was only open on Wednesday night and only had one viewer. Oh yes and there was no connection to a computer so I could not make copies of the documents.
