Hi Ann,

Welcome to Gente and I did get your surnames. I will add them sometime this week.

Hopefully we can help you with your research. Let us know if there is something specific you might need. And, don't forget to check out The Catanzaro Exchange. You never know what you might find there!

Very Happy

Hi, My name is Mary, Ann's Sister, I'm did a quick search of where this cortale is locacted and it is in the same region, and the pictrue they showed do be platania is the same pictrure they are showing as cortale, are they the same place? and which surname are you asking if they are from there ?

I know Provenzano is a surname from Cortale where my grandmother was born. It may be common elsewhere too (I do not know) but I do know that there were many Provenzano families in Cortale, Caraffa and other nearby towns. I have a few years of Cortale records up (not many yet) on The Catanzaro Exchange. You may also want to check Serrastretta and Curinga out too. They are very close to Cortale.
What pictures are you refering to? From the Catanzaro Exchange? Or elsewhere?

Thank you for the infomation on the provenzano surname from cortale, my searches this far have shown that name in several places. When we were very young my grandfather would tell us he was from a place near naples, as we got older he would mention the name nicastro and going to nicastro some times, lately when my sister and i have asked him or my uncle where they were from they say platania, and my great gradfathers passenger record states that as the name of the town where he was born. when looking at the map platania is not near naples at all, so we are a bit confused and have decided to begin searchin platania and area's that surround it i guess. The pictures i was referring too are on the catanzaro exchange and other sites i have seen the same picture being labled as platania and cortale so i was just curious as to which it was? I'm not sure i will ever get to italy to see it for my self and i was just wondering want it was like where my grandparents grew up

Platania is a different comune - near Cortale. Here is their website: www.comuneplatania.it/calcio.asp
I am not sure which pictures from the Catanzaro Exchange you are refering to but there are pictures there from several Catanzaro towns besides Cortale. All pictures on that site were taken by my cousin and his friend on one of their trips there. The pictures labeled Cortale are definitely Cortale.

Thank you so much for your replies, Thats Amazing that you were able to find my great grandfathers records with very little detail, My grandfathers name is vincenzo provenzano and he came here to america much later than my great grand father 1930 or 31 i think. His mother and siblings came a few months before, her name was Carolina Provenzano. we are hoping to be able to gather information at least for a starting point of their birthplaces. Once agian thank you so much for all of your help. Its awesome!!
