What version of FF are you using? The current version is 3.0.5. I've never had my bookmarks wiped out by an upgrade; however, just to be safe, create a restore point and if the upgrade clobbers your bookmarks you can return to that restore point. I am assuming you are using XP.

Hi Tom,

I am running Firefox/2.0.0.20 under VISTA now and I was planning to upgrade to the very latest version of FIREFOX......I think I remember that Nuccia said she lost her bookmarks when she originally went from 2.X to 3.X. When I looked at the location that "ELEVEN" suggested, their were only 4 entries.....I have at leaast 100 Bookmarks, if not many more. I just wanted to be sure they did not disappear.

Again, check out the restore point option I mentioned. It's always a good idea to do that before you install any program just in case the install process goes badly or is interrupted. Also one person's experience doesn't necessarily make it the rule for the simple fact that no two system configurations are the same--different programs, plugins, etc. Anyway look for your profile folder, probably in the applications folder or applications support folder or some such name as that. You should find a bookmark.html file which will open in your browser--it is a list of your bookmarks.

Charlie I'm glad to hear everything worked out ok. NEVER go by what happens to me because I am a whack job with a PC! If something is going to go wrong, it will be to me. I wiped out my printer on Sunday night and spent almost two hours trying to reconfigure it all. Not fun but typically me. lol lol lol

When I bought a new computer last year, I copied my bookmarks to a cd. I was still running win98. When I installed the firefox, I couldnt find the place to put my bookmarks. It wasnt in the same place as win98. I did a google search and found a couple of different instructions. The one above, worked for me. On the same notepad, I had copied another set of instructions, that didnt work (I kept it, but with a notation that it didnt work).

What had to be done, was to change the name of your bookmark file, to read what that one you found, did. Then yours would replace it. You would have had to rename the one that was there, first, so the computer would accept the one you rename.

(Are ya confused yet?) lol

Anyway, I am glad you got it going.

I am usually technically competent enough to be dangerous......I have upgraded both hardware (cpu upgrades, disk replacement, memory) and software (OS, etc.), but a lot of times I feel that I am working out there without a net as things usually don't work as advertised;-)

I have spent most of my career in IT, but a large part of it selling hardware and enterprise software to Fortune 200 companies; I also worked in a technical capacity back in the days of the dinosaurs. I was forced to learn the technical side of the PC when I purchased a Tandy 1000 for my kids when they were little and have lived through the Microsoft migration through DOS, Windows and now VISTA ---- I still feel like a pioneer as they never make it easy.

I am a do it yourselfer. I will try to fix anything dealing with software and within the computer. The hardware, I stand over my husband and tell him what to do. This way..if it breaks...he did it..lol

You havent lived until you managed to have not only windows (3.1) disappear..but dos, too. In 15 years, a computer I have owned has only see the inside of a shop, once. Thats this one. Lightning struck my modem and the network card. It was under warranty..so back it went.

If you ask me win95 and 98 were the easiest to work with as far as finding things and doing things like you wanted to do..save the bookmarks. Everytime gates makes a new one..he hides things. I used to save my bookmarks regularly to a cd. Now..I get frustrated when I have to read something..just to find something..so I dont bother. I emailed myself a few links to the places I visit most. This way..if everything got totally lost, I can go into my yahoo acct from anywhere and still be able to go to the most important places.

Only a few versions of firefox had bookmark problems although it is smart to back them up just in case.

How to save your bookmarks:

On the top firefox menu bar select "Bookmarks"

Then select "Organize Bookmarks..."

Then select "Import and Backup"

Then select "Export HTML..."

NOTE: do not select "backup" fore doing so is useless

After selecting "Export HTML..." a window will pop up

rename the highlighted text with a name of your choice leaving the .html there

Then choose where you'd like to save the file.

and then click on "Save".

How to install your bookmarks:

On the top firefox menu bar select "Bookmarks"

Then select "Organize Bookmarks..."

Then select "Import and Backup"

Then select "Import HTML..."

If a window pops up asking you if you'd like to open an Opera file or to open an HTML file make sure that "From an HTML" file is selected

Then click on "Next"

A window will open

Then find the bookmark that you saved and click on "Open"
