While trnaslating some certificates for citizenship the other day i came accross a novel way to record the year in question on a birth certificate. I am convinced that it was the choice of this particular Registrar (Ufficiale dello Stato Civile) who decided he would do it just to be different!

So different that he wrote it as it is spoken "One thousand eight hundred and ninety seven", But this is what it looked...

"Mille 890 sette"
