#1: Obtaining GGF Register of Birth from Varese Italy Author: Tonio70 PostPosted: Sat Feb 13, 2010 1:02 am

Hi all,

I am a newbie to this site and so far I am enjoying what I am reading from various posts, very informational. Here is my dilemna, I had ordered my GGF birth "Estratto dai registri degli atti di nascita" from an online service for citizenship purposes. I recieved the document as well as obtain all other pertinent documents I will need. After going through all records and verifying dates I realize that my GGF day of birth on the document was wrong, it states May 10, 1883. All other information such as parents names are correct. I double checked all information from other documents I have for him, naturalization record, italian passport, a etc, all have the 16th of May, 1883. I even verified with a family member who knew him very well, she verified it was the 16th of May, 1883. I even have a copy of his birth record from ancestry.com that says in Italian the 16th of May 1883.

How do I write the Commune and have them issue me a correct "Estratto dai registri degli atti di nascita"? Would there be a fee, if so, how much? Any help would be of great assistance. I have an appointment for my citizenship in August and this is the only document that I need.

Ciao

Antonio

HI Antonio and welcome to Gente. I would write to them again and just ask them to re issue it. The date closest to the actual event (like birth) is the correct date. Your GGF was probably born on the 10th and the birth was registered on the 16th of May. I'm afraid, if this is the case then the comune will not change it.

Tonio can you post the actual image you got from ancestry? I'm assuming it's the actual birth record recorded from 1883. Sometimes the births were recorded a few days later and further down in the document is the actual date and time of birth.

Please post so members can take a look for you Smile thanks

Thanks. I have attached the document for clarification from anyone who can read and translate it. The JPG has 2 entries, the entry I will need help with is on the bottom left side, Number 174, Giovanni Achini. I appreciate any help with this matter.

Ciao,

Antonio

FYI, Nuccia you mentioned that my GGF may have been born on the 10th and the date registered on the 16th, I have his original passport from Italy and his draft card from Italy and both say his birth as the 16th of May. I have attached the birth record I obtained from Ancestry for your reference. Thanks again for you help.

Ciao,

Antonio

Hi Antonio I hope you don't mind but the image you posted was very hard to read so I found the image on ancestry
and am re-posting so the members can take a better look

page 1

page 2

To me, based on page 1, the birth was registered on May 17, 1883 but the actual birth was May 16, 1883.
Father was Battista Achini and he is the person that declared
the birth of his son Giovanni Achini ....the mother was
Natalina Frattina ?? and she was the wife of Battista.

I'm hoping that one of the translators for Gente can take a look and
verify everything (I have been know to be wrong on more than ONE occasion Wink )

Hope this helps out.

Yes, he was born on the 16th of May. It looks like the people at the comune wrote the wrong date. You will need to contact them again and ask them to re issue it with the correct date - I blame it on human error and nothing more. It will work out for you - send them a copy of the birth act and ask for the new certificate. As far as I know, there should be no charge for this. You can write directly to them without the online service if you prefer using the address from where it came from (or we could provide you an address if you prefer).

Hi Antonio

You should post your letter in the translation forum and one of the translators will be able to help
you with any corrections if needed. You may also want to state in the letter that you had already
requested a long birth act and received it but the birth date was incorrect. Ask on the translation
board and someone there should be able to tell you if that is necessary to include or not.
Good luck Smile
