Hello!

I am hoping that I can find my fmily roots. My granfather came to the United States in the early 1900's from Reggio de Calabria; he had intentions of returning to his homeland, but never did. i know he had a very large family; his name was Antonio Zumbo. If anyone can tell me anything about my family roots in Italy, it will be greatly appreciated Smile
Thank you so much !
Lisa

Hi Lisa! Welcome to Gente. It's nice to have you here with us.

Now, I have managed to locate at least 2 Antonio Zumbo's so could you give us a few more details (like approximate age, wife's name, where he settled ) anything you can think of to help make it a bit easier to track the correct one?

Thanks!

Hi Nuccia!
Thank you soo much for your quick response. My grandfather was born in 1889; in came to America in 1908. He passed away at age 89 15 years ago. I hope this helps; if I can get more detailed info to you I will. The birth year is approximate.

Thank you again!
Lisa

hi Again Nuccia,

I made an error with how long ago my grandfather passed. It was 32 years ago; not 15. I was 15 years old when he died. That is where I made the error

Nuccia,
This is definitely him. He did come to Ellis Island NY, the date you have with regard to his naturalization sounds right too. Not long after he became naturalized he married my grandmother. I do not know anything about his family; only that they were poor farmers who survived a tidal wave. This is wonderful! Do you think there is any way I can find out about the location of his immediate family members?

Thank you so much Nuccia!

He may not have been in the military but he still had to register for the drafts as per the Selective Service Act - almost all males had to. I wrote a short piece about it here:
WW1 Draft Registration Cards. The same process applied for WW2. And the name on the card looks like Vincenza or Vicgenza. The lived at 139 Humphrey St New Haven Connecticut and he worked for New Ideal Lunch - 1390 State Street, New Haven.

I believe this is his death certificate..

He was divorced so could this have been a second marriage for him or could Jennie be the same as Vincenza (which I have heard of before)? And since he is from New Haven I believe its the same person.
