#1: Win7/64BIT --- PROBLEM WITH FIREWALL Author: charliemis, Location: PhiladelphiaPosted: Wed May 16, 2012 11:44 am ----
I have been using WIN7/64BIT on my latest laptop for about 2 years....about 6 months ago I began to experience sluggish performance so I decided to unhook my Zone Alarm Firewall and switched to the Windows Firewall product instead as I thought it would/should be more compatible with Windows.....recently I discovered that something has happened to the Firewall settings and I am unable to access the firewall (which may or may not be functioning). When I try to reset it back I get the following error code --- 0X80070424. I have tried numerous tools from MS and Malwarebytes --- I run avast! anti-virus. Some of the tools grt to completion with no positive change; a few don't run completely.
Has anyone experienced or heard about this? Searching Google yielded a lot of suggestions but nothing seems to make a difference ----- says there is a rootkit virus:

I have been having trouble for a few months with it so computer shopping. Have you tried restoring it back to before you installed that program or have you figured out what caused your problem?

Hi Nuccia,
I have not been able to restore my Windows Firewall.....I don't know what caused the problem initially......a while back I de-installed Zone Alarm becuase of "sluggish performance" and I also replaced AVG anti-Virus with Avast due to incompatibility with Firebird.....I don't know what caused the problem with Windows Firewall and have not been able to restore it. I have tried numerous recommended fixes I found online but nothing has restored the Firewall. Another recommendation was to re-install WIN7/64Bit but I am reluctant to try that. Right now I am running (with my fingers crossed) without having a Firewall.

One wrong program or driver and the whole thing crashes. Maybe you can take it in to Best Buy or Future Shop and have them fix it? I know everyone priced me about 100 bucks to reinstall the operating system and at least they guarantee it. One thing I learned - before installing or downloading any new program create a restore point for these such things. Oh and see if an update happened right after your install. I found that some updates screwed with my programs. Uninstall the updates and it may work again.

I purchased this on the suggestion of PCWorld. It has been great in repairing my Win7.
Certainly worth the try. About every other month i run this program to keep things straight. Sometimes other programs mess up your system files and this seems to fix them.
