I 've found WHEN and WHERE she died!

YES - after almost 50 years of searching and wondering.... yesterday I recieved the certificate for Nonna Nina's second marriage - and with THAT name I finally found her last night (well this morning - 1.30am - actually). She died in 1949 in Ealing in London..... No wonder she managed to disappear - she had divorced husband #1 (I wonder why?) and in 1924 married the next one !

Now to fill in where she was from 1936 'til 1924 and from 1924 to 1949. I shall be interested to know why she died so young too (58). It's strange, my mother died at 59 - but hey....I beat the trend! LOL

We now have a 'new mystery' to solve - How come her daughter (my Mum) didn't know about this. It happened when she was only 11 ????

Great News Carole Both of us seem to be on a winning streak right now.
Maybe your Mum didnt know! What if husband No1 had been out of the 'picture' for a long time before she remarried then if that was the case your Mum perhaps didnt remember. I think from what you have said your Nina was cute enough to cover her tracks Someone once said this to me, " When something bad has happened in a family and the person involved doesnt want their family to know about it, all the neighbours will know but the last to find out will be the person closest to them. "

How did you finally find where to send for the document?

I'm so pleased for you Carole Very glad you broke that trend. Including ME we've a lot more damage to do yet Wink Wink Wink

Carole,

I've been putting all the info into a database. I'm curious as to when she and Husband number one divorced and what happened to him. Then we need to get the death certificate to see who signed off the death certificate and maybe find out what she died of. So much to still uncover!

Oh, and I'm really glad you "beat" the odds on this one. I need you!

Thanks - you're asking the question I want to as well....but in the meantime 'her' Birth Certificate arrived this morning too. She was born in 1890 and not '91 as we thought.

Here's the scan

Sorry Gina...
It's a bit long to explain, but the first two episodes of the so called 'Naughty Nina Saga' can be found here: >'Naughty Nina 'Saga' <

It will open on Episode Two so just scroll down to read Episode One first.

One or two things have changed slightly to the accounts here an I have to get it up to date with "Episode Three" very soon. But to all intents and purposes she (my Nonna Nina) lived a life of lies for many, many years!

But to answer your question about my mothers knowledge of 'husbands' - she knew NOTHING.... having been told her father died early in the war (WW1). She was never told of the identity of her real father (she was it seems illegitemate) OR her mothers first or second husbands! But read the story and 'enjoy'.

Oh Carole...I read the Naughty Nina blog a long time ago. I always go to your site to check for updates because I was so intrigued. What I needed an explaination on was the husband situation. But now that you've explained it, I understand. It truly is fascinating. I have some strange stories too and it always makes me wonder what dire straights our ancestors were in to create such a web of deception.

Well Nina's long awaited Death Certificate has arrived. I now know that she died on 18th March 1949 following a brain haemorrhage. But interestingly the death was reported by her 'sister-in-law' - one E.R.Edmed. Now this was yet another twist in the tail and made me notice another 'missed' snippet of information....let me explain.

Nina had two brothers:
No1. Frederick William - born Alessandria Egypt 1889.
Married Katie Savill 1913.

No2. Claude Victor Edmed - born Malta 1895.
Married Lily M.A. Tyson 1922.

Claude was a witness at Nina's first marriage to Charles Newcombe.

F.W. Edmed (Frederick William?) and E.R.Edmed were both witnesses at Nina's second marriage to Richard Henry Gunter in 1924.

So the question arises - What happened to Fredericks FIRST wife Katie.... she is one of a large farming family from Saffron Walden and shows on the 1891 Census. I can find NO trace of her death.
BUT
On that 1891 Census Katie is shown to have a younger sister Emily Ruth...could this girl have become Frederick’s second wife E.R.Edmed?

AND another thought....
Richard Henry (or as he is often shown Henry Gunter) had one daughter from his first marriage - she was born in 1900 and named Emily! I wonder what her middle name was (if she had one)?

So far I have not found any trace of the deaths of ANY of the Edmed family whatsoever - apart from that of Muriel Edith (Nina) in 1949!

So I am searching for ANY of the following deaths - if anyone has any ideas or can help...

1. Frederick William Edmed (1) b.1863
2. Mary Ellen Edmed (nee Stapleton) b.1886 Halifax Nova Scotia
3. Frederick William Edmed (2) b. 1889
4. Katie Edmed (nee Savill) b. about 1882
5. Charles Newcombe b. about 1887 Camberwell London
6. Claude Victor Edmed b. 1895 Malta
7. Lily M...A. Tyson b. (Claude’s wife)
8. Richard Henry (or Henry Richard) Gunter b. about 1877 Wiltshire
9. Emily Gunter (Richard’s daughter) b. about 1900 – Islington London

I find it incredible that there seem to be no easily found records of these people’s deaths. Their marriages – yes. One or two births too. But their deaths are another matter!

It's driving me up the wall.....

Nice to see you back with us James... and thank you for checking out the 'Saga'.

Yes in fact we had got back as far as Mary's parents John and Mary in Nova Scotia, but my stumbling block at the moment is what happened to Mary Ellen and her husband Frederick William (b. 1863).

I actually managed to get their military marriage certificate via the Nova Scotia Statistics and genealogy site. Cost a bit less than from the UK Government records office AND I was able to download it on line!

But I can find no trace of their deaths anywhere. I know they were in London in 1911 at 'Naughty Nina's' first marriage - but after that ZILCH!

The Third Episode is >HERE<. There are a few of our latest finds missing, but those don't invole anyone in Canada...
