I am very close to completing all of the Civile records available for Corato (Nascita, Morti and Matrimonio) and I will soon be ordering my first film of Allegati.....I am guessing they will be a collection of Birth and Death records....is this correct?? Or will there be additional documents?

I usually use an extraction form for recording the data which later gets entered into FTM, so I want to be prepared for what I will find.

Thanks

An "allegato" can be a lot of different documents...
Allegati ai matrimoni is the collection of all the documents produced in order to get married: Birth certificates of the spouses, written consensus of the parents if the spouse is under age, death certificate if the previous husband or wife, etc.
Allegato agli atti di nascita o di morte could be, a tribunal sentence to correct a mistake in the original record, the notification of a birth or death occurred by another comune or by an hospital or a jail, etc
...

Allegati can yield revelations in one's genealogy search, particularly if the Allegati are from the earliest dates of the civil records, for example 1820. An Allegato in 1820 could reveal information from an event that occurred prior to the institution of civil record keeping.

thanks Tom....unfortunately in my case the benefit may be limited as they are available beginning in 1866.....I will most likely "zero in" on records pertaining to the marriage dates I have recorded. My Paternal GF was married in 1886 and 1895 (my GM) but my GGF was married in 1848 prior to the docs being available. Hopefully I will get lucky and find some death records included from the earlier generations.....I will also make sure I cover all the other branches as well. I have been searching the web looking for additional "format" docs to see if there are any specific forms available as Exraction templates in addition to the ones I use for the normal Vital records that will be included. And my Latin skills are very rusty; back in the days of St. Matthew's HS Embarassed

Hi Charlie. Have you already tried to obtain the Allegati from the comune itself or the Archives?

If not, it is worth a shot that they may have something for 1848. Interestingly, with a change in the administration in the comune I am working with they have revealed to me the years they retained which were not turned over to the Archives. The particular Archives has also let me know what years they have prior to 1865. This has been very helpful in obtaining records that I never thought I would have.

For me, this is a case of persistent writing to each. I think they got tired of telling me that they did not have a particular year and could not help. I do believe I am now at a dead end but through all of this I have been able to go back to 1730 for my ?grandparents. The church for that area burned at the end of the 19th century so won't be able to get anything from them unless they can come up with a Church census for 1800 or earlier but I am sure that is not possible. The only one, from what I understand, that survived was 1855.

No, I will be just starting to begin looking at the allegati films that are available.....as I mentioned they begin in 1866. I'm not sure if this holds true for the Allegati as well, but the "l'Ufficiale di Stato Civile" told me that he had the same Vital Records available as did the FHC beginning in 1809 when I had asked about a very early record (and he has really been very helpful, but I have had the chance to meet with him about 3 times plus have sent him some little gifts).
Not sure what he has available regarding to the Allegati, but he seemed to indicate that everything available was filmed????

I'm hoping that I get lucky and find a lot of info on GF's marriage record.

Thanks Charlie. Have a question. What kind of gifts did you give? I have some extremely helpful individuals I would like to do the same with for all they have done for me.

The official was a man, so I have sent him a Phillies baseball cap, also a wool Eagles winter hat, a Liberty Bell keychain and some other trinkets over the past 6 years.....a couple were mailed and I delivered the others. This guy has provided me with about 50 Extractions, even a few I didn't ask about.

Every time I go to Corato, I try to stop by....the last time, he left a meeting to say Hi.

Gifts were inexpensive and when I was mailing them, lightweight to sve from spending a fortune in postage.
