I personally think the whole thing is silly. I had seen the article about the catholics.

When you are dead..you are dead. They can say all of the mumbo jumbo they want..it means nothing..in my opinion.

BTW, I saw a mormon baptism. We were at the FHL, which was opened on a saturday for a little make up time (snow days). A young girl was getting baptised and since my husband and I were the only ones there, they asked if we wanted to go watch..so we went.

They are in a white garment, like a cotton robe, I guess..and the room had a sunken tiled tub. The minister (or whatever they call the religious person) was standing in the tub, which was about half filled. They lay the person backwards..supporting them so the dont fall and actually dunk them totally in. Someone waits at the edge of the tub..with towels. It was very quick..nothing fancy. I found it very interesting.

Now that you mention it, one of my daughters friends is a Mormon I believe. She went to a ceremony just like that for her last year when she was being baptized. My husband stayed for it and thought it was also interesting. I think sometimes we need to be more open to new experiences. It doesn't mean we need to convert but there is no harm in learning and appreciating and respecting others beliefs is there?

Now I am going to read the article. I'm a bit backwards I guess.

This is something I plan to ask my FHC Director about. She and I have had some very good conversations lately and she (and her husband) are Mormons. They have been wonderful, open honest and very supportive about what we do. We briefly discussed the issue of posthumous baptisms last week and although we didn't get the chance to finish I found it interesting. It's too soon for me to make a decision about how much truth is in all of this since I don't know that much about it but you can bet I plan to find out.

I went to the FHL for two years straight..at least once a week, sometimes twice.

I found these people warm and friendly and nobody tried to convert us..lol We once had a conversation about religion, but I brought it up..not them. I was curious and interested. I even used to tease them about not being able to do any fun things...no alcohol, no caffine, no smoking..geeze.

One of the women went to mexico and gave me a bottle of vanilla extract. I thought that was so nice.

Would you believe that if they werent going to open because of the weather, they would call me up. I had the home phone numbers for a few of them, too.

I couldnt say if they do these posthumous baptisms or not. I just think, if they do..its meaningless to anyone but them. You cant perform a legal ceremony on a dead person..and without even a body..lol Besides, the dead have no rights. I cant recall exactly where I read that, but it was early on in my research.
